KOMO - Seattle, WA : State to sex offenders: Don't make your house a Halloween stop | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | L

If you have committed one crime, served time and gotten out, you are more likely to re-offend. (Statistically.) Doesn't matter what your crime is. Also, for those suggesting to "lock people up" where do you propose these people are "locked up?" Our prisons and jail are at maximum capacity, and with minimal state mental health facilities, we don't have many options as a state. There are always going to be "bad" people on the streets, living in our neighborhoods etc. They've always been there, we're just more aware now. With our heightened awareness about crimes, we should learn more about how to keep from falling victim to one of these criminals. Ex: On Halloween, be a parent, don't let your kid go anywhere alone. Yes it takes extra effort to walk upto the doorstep with your child, but I'm pretty sure that most Americans could use a little extra exercise anyway. :) Not to mention the value of spending QUALITY time with your kids, outside, not in front of the TV.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : 13 E.coli cases linked to Lake Stevens restaurant | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | News

In North Carolina the health inspectors give letter grades to each restaurant they inspect. 8 1/2 x 11 papers are posted right at the front door or window so that everyone going into the restaurant can see. It makes it pretty simple for people to decide whether they want to take a "chance" eating at a "D" restaurant, or find somewhere else with a better rating. I'm not sure how their process works, but I think that the restaurants with a poor rating have to make changes and then call for an inspector to come out again. (This is probably a long wait.) In the mean time, the restaurants are still open (unless there's serious problems) but they have their "D" letter right in front so patrons know that they're taking a chance eating there. I think WA should do something like this, it definitely makes the food inspectors review more public, and you don't have a to go digging for results so that you can eat at a clean place.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Teen sought in school shooting captured, charged | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | News

Just want to point out that this guy is a kid. Although I totally agree that he made an adult descision by killing someone and should be tried as an adult it's important to remember he's 16. Maybe if he had someone to guide him into a better activity choice, like actually playing football, he wouldn't have felt the need to join a gang, or live the "thug" lifestyle. Kids join gangs because they want to feel accepted, get bored, or have family members/ friends participating in gang activities. Maybe if one person (Big Brother/ Big Sister, Parent, Uncle, Aunt, Teacher etc.) had helped this kid get into a better activity he wouldn't have felt the need to join a gang. Maybe some people will be inspired to volunteer in their community, or help be responsible for their extended family because in this case, we see what happens when kids get bored or feel like they don't have enough attention. If one person sees this and finds a way to do something better in their community for kids I'm sure it would make the victim's family feel an ounce better about what happened.
