Perhaps no law should be allowed to be longer than a certain number of words, say, 5 or 10 thousand words, and they must be at no greater than a high school reading level.

1. Line item veto for the president which would go a long way toward eliminating pork barrel spending
2. Term limits by requiring a higher percentage of the popular vote with each reelection.
3. Allow second choice when voting for elected officials to encourage people to vote for less popular candidates. If your first choice loses, your vote goes to your second choice.

Again, I agree with your sentiment and your urgency but I don't agree that the tactic would help the cause. Sure, it would make a statement, but would it send the right statement. Does it say that we are swelling group of every-day Americans who are standing up for common sense, or does it say we are just a bunch of radicals that are bent on being heard and won't listen to reason? I think it will send the latter.

Don't get me wrong, the idea makes me laugh. I wouldn't be upset if it happened. I especially love the name "National Clog the Toilet Day!" I could almost be persuaded to support it just on that name alone!

Instead of a simple term limit of one or two terms on all congressman, which will likely have trouble passing, I propose a sliding term limit. The first time a candidate runs for an office, they would only need a simple majority to win. However, the second time they run, they must get at least 50% of the vote to retain their office. The next election they'd need 60% or 70%. And with each successive reelection campaign, they need to get a higher percent of the vote. That way, if the people really do support someone, they can vote them back in, but it becomes harder to do so with each election and gets rid of the unfair incumbency advantage.

My Obama supporter friend and I came up with this idea the other day and we both thought it was a excellent compromise.

The trick isn't in getting the politicians to care, the trick is in getting your family and friends to care. If we all get involved together, I'm convinced we can make a big difference, peacefully. But we must be patient and determined, and we must stick together.

While I agree with your sentiment, I think it's a little harmful. Denial of service attacks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_at... aren't technically illegal yet in the US, but they certainly aren't thought of fondly. I'm sure people in public positions wouldn't be inclined to actively support such a thing. I do think, however, that having everyone individually call their representatives once all on the same day and thereby legitimately clogging the phone lines would by much more convincing.
