Barack's page starts off as follows: His story is the American story — values from the heartland, a middle-class upbringing in a strong family, hard work and education as the means of getting ahead, and the conviction that a life so blessed should be lived in service to others. I want even my smallest actions to have the most meaning. As of yet, I do not know what I am going to do for my contribution to the912 project, but to start things off I took the 12 values and put them in a promise I say to myself daily - knowing one day my ripples and the ripples of others in my community will make waves. Today, I promise to work harder to build a better sense of community in my life; I promise to be honest and sincere with everyone I encounter; I promise to make every action one of reverence and humility; I promise to bring moderation and thrift into the center of my being so charity may be given a chance to shine; I promise to show courage when injustice rises and gratitude when blessings fall. Today I am making it my personal responsibility to fullfill these promises so that I may continue to hope for a better tomorrow.
