SmartBlog On Social Media : Leading a new era of customer engagement with customer loyalty 3.0

Right on Carol -- I remember the first time I went to a store where I knew I had a loyalty card and started fumbling around for it in my purse and they said, "Oh, you don't have to do that -- we have it in our system." Win!! Anybody who's still handing out cards customers need to keep track of should take it to the next level already...we're all kind of overwhelmed keeping track of codes, passwords, and little loyalty punchcards.

Make A Living Writing : Why Your Writing Journey Matters

If you've got 33,000 words, I say put that ebook out already! If I had it to do over again I would have kept my first one shorter and put it out as 3 separate ebooks instead of one big one. More launches to get people excited about, and more ways to package and promote them that way. Writing my own code...ain't gonna happen. I am barely functional in the usability and design side...as those who've wrestled with my comment system can tell you! But I just keep looking for affordable help, and learning to do things myself as I can, and keep on swimming... Best of luck with your '11 journey -- Carol

I haven't really read that many books about writing...sort of weird. Except Bird by Bird by Annie Lamott, which I loved. Hoping to crack a few of these in the new year...thanks for guesting Sharon!

Hi Abhinav -- Thanks for visiting my blog! I'm not a novelist...but I'd say I've never met a novelist who doesn't read like mad. Guess my answer would be "both" -- I think everyone studies great writers, whether consciously or not. But ultimately, when you sit down to write, it's about creating something unique, that only you could have written.

Special note to all who have been victims of IntenseDebate's annoying moderation problems. Hopefully this is my last post on the system...supposed to go back to the WordPress default over the weekend. Let's hope for better chatting by Monday! IntenseDebate has many features I like, including an awesome spam filter, but the inability to let people I've previously approved comment further without moderation has made it unworkable for me. Want to set your comments free...we'll see how it works next week.

My source material for sabbath inspiration is The Sabbath by Abraham Joshua Heschel...no doubt what Buchanan read to write his book. I don't have trouble taking time away...but struggle with the whole feeling of behinderness and never quite feeling like I've "made it." Who knows what would fill that hole...but I think it's better to realize that the journey is what matters. The destination for all of us is the same.

Coming out of journalism, I started with an instinct for the importance of key words in headlines, but just recently learned the trick about what's in the excerpt that many search engines pick up. There's just always more to learn, isn't there?

Hi Adriana - I recommend all of the above! I'm always amazed at people who have high-toned degrees and aren't working that alumni network. And I find speaking on panels a great way to connect with a lot of people in one shot. Thanks for commenting!

Yeah, the joke at one publication I worked at as a staffer was we'd ask newbies what they're most-desired superpower was...and mine was always "the ability to clone myself."

Hi Cathy -- funny you should ask. Intense Debate does not allow me to let people I've previously OK'd post without moderation in future...which is driving me slowly nuts. This weekend, I'll be switching back to WP default comment system, so the problem will hopefully be resolved by next week.
