I'm hoping that some kind of pathway to effective activism emerges soon, because I want to do something too, but right now, I feel a little helpless, knowing that I have no power, no money, no influence.

Well, just now I did get to listen to military officer talking to my boss about how people voted for Trump because they felt like the "establishment" was wrongly accusing them of being things they aren't. Like for instance, North Carolina voted for Trump because they resented the establishment accusing them of being bigoted for their bathroom bill when they were just concerned citizens. To my credit, I did not yell at this man or throw my stapler at his head. But other than that, it's mostly been fine, except for the fact that everyone here is fine with the results.

Thank you so much. And I agree so hard with everything you said. I'm getting through work, but mostly because I've reached the point of feeling just kind of numb.

I'm just almost congratulating myself that I've made it through the first hour and fifty minutes of sitting in an open desk in a very Republican office without starting to cry. I think I'm just on a random cycle of numb/angry/heartbroken right now and nothing feels like it can really be real. I just keep thinking about my dude sitting on the couch with me last night saying in this quiet shocked voice, "This wasn't supposed to happen. We were supposed to be better than this." I remember at about a quarter to midnight, turning to look at him and suddenly finding myself sobbing. And then going to be at about half-past midnight before they called it because we had work in the morning, but he couldn't make himself sleep, so he got up again and went into the other room. At a little after two in the morning, he came back in and got back into bed and, half-awake, I asked him what had happened. And he just started to cry. So I guess I have six hours left of not crying at my desk to go now.

Same here. I think that's a lot of the reason I haven't tried too hard to come up with an actual worst-case scenario plan. I'm pretty sure my idea of what that scenario is would end getting improbably dystopian. I'm remaining hopeful about the chances of me really not needing to worry about that, though. (I'm realizing that this election season has been an interesting emotional roller-coaster for someone with depression with a side order of anxiety who also generally tries to fight to be at least tentatively optimistic about things.)

I've got to be at work tomorrow too, so I also have to be asleep around midnight, whether or not I want to be.

God, me too, me too. I don't know that I'll be able to actually convince myself to go to bed while anything is still in suspense. Then again, I'm not sure what I'm going to do if this isn't called in favor of Clinton.

. . . I'm not even sure I'm willing to entertain that alternative as a possibility right now.

I am voting after work, so I am just jittery and anxious at my desk all day . . . I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself to keep any semblance from the time after I vote until the time either they announce a winner or I have to force myself to go to bed. (I know that currently my dude has promised to make pierogi and kielbasa for dinner and I've promised to pick up something to drink, so there's that to look forward to at least.)

It's been a long overly stressful week at work and tomorrow I have a Halloween party to go to. I was pretty lax about getting my costume together, so I'm gonna be Boy George and hope I can wing it with clothes I already own. Right now, though, I'm just trying to get through the last 3.5 hours of the workday without losing my mind. <img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-62piKHMIIRI/Use7XrMGhdI/AAAAAAAABAs/ZjZ3lt0KxRQ/s1600/Brooklyn99Insider-Samberg-Peralta-Screaming+Song.gif">

. . . I just checked and I don't think I've actually ever seen "Vault." I need to do that. (When I was first watching due South, it was absolutely in no particular order and then I started filling in some gaps in no particular order, so there are still some weird holes, because I'm not great at keeping up with television shows even when I watch them in order.) Actually, I've probably seen "Asylum" almost as many times as I've seen anything else--I have maybe one time in casual conversation said "Nobody tells Tony how to make pizza; he left Russia to be free" and then realized too late that there was no way to explain that to people who had never heard of due South.

Oh maaan, I really really need to rewatch \"Dr. Longball,\" because I've only seen it once and my memory of it is really hazy. But I have a big soft spot for both due South (obviously) and also baseball, so I'm kind of disappointed in myself for not having seen it again yet.

I'm trying to think of what episodes I know I've rewatched a bunch of times . . . \"A Hawk and a Handsaw\" and \"Gift of the Wheelman\" are both up there, I think. \"Odds.\" \"Good for the Soul.\" I've seen \"The Deal\" several times, but that's kind of a rough episode, so I don't tend to watch it if I just want to feel all warm and comforted for forty minutes. (Same with \"Ladies' Man,\" I guess.)

I can't access Tumblr from work, so I am super excited for this when I get home. (I feel like maybe my dude and I are in a similar place with being done with the feeling of being torn ragged over the state of everything, 'cause somehow I realized that due South has started coming up in conversation more regularly over the last couple of weeks.)

Me neither! I don't know what it is this October, but a lot of it for me has been either being busy with other things or having some spare time and then thinking, I could do something Halloweeny! But . . . meh, I don't feel like it right now. So as of right now, I feel like I haven't done much, which is too bad, 'cause I love Halloween. (But I don't really decorate, since I have a tiny apartment whose balcony faces into some woods and doesn't get trick-or-treaters.) But the whole thing for me this year still feels sort of like the Halloween equivalent of a year or two ago when we put up the Christmas tree at around 9pm on December 23rd.

It really is! (I am notorious for almost never making it more than five to ten episodes into a TV show, even if I was really enjoying it.) I think I had more faith in myself to do this because I somehow managed to do it last year, but I'm realizing that in retrospect, last October, I had a lot more free time by pure chance, and also my dude was working a restaurant manager, so I had the apartment to myself pretty much every weekend and evening until about one or two in the morning. It's somehow a lot harder to spontaneously toss on a movie now when you often have two people home at the same time in the same 500 square feet. (And last year, a lot of the 31 I watched were kind of background noise to me doing art or something, which has been the case with a few this year too.)

If your personal discomfort with a candidate's (likely inaccurate) media portrayal takes precedence over the lives of the majority of people living in this country, I have nothing to say to you, now or ever. I cannot overlook or forgive that level of callousness and willful ignorance. Consider the fact that your ability to consider voting third-party is based in privilege. You can protest vote because the fallout from a disastrous election result will not sufficiently affect you. Are you prepared to be so selfish? That was all amazing, but this was especially striking. I've said this in conversations before over the last couple of months, talking about the people I know who are voting third party or choosing not to vote at all--And how those people (of the ones I know of personally) seem to all be able-bodied straight white guys with stable jobs that pay them well. And it infuriates me, the idea that things like my life might just be abstract concepts to them that they see as hypothetical theoretical scenarios that they have the luxury to "agree to disagree on."
