Narnia in 2012?! Carin, why don't you join my very own Narnia reading project? Already quite a number of people have signed up, we will have a good time - and no pressure! My recent post My reading list for January & December recap

about happy books : What are your favourite ways to stay connected with blogs?

Inever used GFC and never would. As not all blogs have it what is the point of using it? I always saw GFC as a way to boost bloggers' egos when they saw the huge number of their "followers". I use Google reader and am totally happy with it. You can "label" blogs on all sorts of ways and it is so convenient. I wouldn't know what to do without it.
about happy books : Books of the week #17 - trying not to freak out ...

You don't know Ravished? You really have to get it! Harriet is the best, most down-to-earth heroine who doesn't believe evil rumours but believes in herself and her own feelings. She is marvelous and she and the guy (forgot his name, it's been a while) are a great couple.
Sofort bestellt!

Carin, I agree, this book is just light reading, but entertaining nevertheless. I like romance, so I liked the scenes between the two, obviously. Yes, I am going to read the rest of the series (already waiting on my shelf) but it was not like "I have to go and buy the next book this instant". It can wait a bit longer.

Well, I have kids, and I still don't like them in my books, :). Can you recommend a specific book(s)? Slow paced with not much going on, focus on the couple, no kids OR pets, please.
I have never read anything by her and kept looking around for something I might like. This one sounds very nice - and I love the cover - however, three boys. I don't like kids in my books. Are they a big topic or can I ignore their presence?
Ah, the word Yugioh immediately caught my eye. My bigger boy LOVES that stuff. Too bad I'm in Germany.
http://littlebookish.blogspot.com/ : Shiver–Maggie Stiefvater

All you say is true, Carin, but I still disagree with you (we already agreed on that). But you know why I think we disagree on this point? Because all my experiences when I was young were totally different. I don't know one girl that was in my school that became pregnant, I never had heard of someone at school catching STD etc. It seems that I grew up in such a protected environment (teens still had sex, but maybe in a less obvious, provocative way) that I just don't see the harm in it. I suppose it all boils down to what we knew when we were younger and what circumstances formed our opinions on things.

I must have misunderstood when you said that it should be more taboo than it is. I agree that education is the most important thing about it. But then in this case it seemed that Grace and Sam WERE aware of what they are doing and I felt it came natural to them. In fact Grace struck me as a very responsible person and I can't find fault in them both wanting to sleep with each other. Yes, it did not discuss the topic at all, but I didn't expect it to either, so I was not disappointed. As far as the teen girls are concerned, I think - not having any experience on the matter - that teen boys are just as insecure and vulnerable as the girls, so at least in that respect I think they are on "equal footing".
Good review, Carin. I must admit that I never even thought about the teenage sex angle. I found it came natural and had to happen eventually. I don't see a problem with it either, provided the people involved know how to protect themselves and don't do it without considering the possible outcome. Not addressing teenage sex and making it into a taboo won't help at all. Keeping something a taboo never helps prevent it. As for being heartbroken or disappointed afterwards, this is something that applies to a lot of people, it is a risk that you take no matter how old you are. I must agree though that the romantic angle was somewhat overdone here. I'll post my review later today...
http://littlebookish.blogspot.com/ : Friday Coffee Chat–Book Burnout

Thanks, Carin. Tell me about it. In fact, sometimes I don't get anything done because I don't know what to do first. I have like three hours in the evening, but then start debating whether to get the beads out or the yarn or start a new digital project and by the time I made up my mind, the time is up and all I have done was sit at the computer. Happens all the time. So, lately I am not as productive and creative as I would like to be.
