My theory is that the pre-titles scene is real and that The Doctor will be on the brink of regeneration in the Christmas special, constantly fighting to hold it back until the end of the episode when he finally regenerates. Though one of the reasons I have this theory is because I really don't want to see yet another fake-out.

But that is also the same exact definition used for representative democracies which would be a far better term in general considering that there are several non-republics around (such as the UK, Sweden, Netherlands, etc) where the voters also choose representatives who make the decisions.

You know a thing which always bugs me when I watch this episode is Bartlet's comment about republic v. democracy. Now during my education I was always told that republic pretty much only means that a nation doesn't have a monarch as its head of state, but what Bartlet says sounds far more like a description of a representative democracy. So does the word republic then hold different connotations in America than it does over here in Europe?

Wow, this is it, huh? The penultimate episode of Angel, and after the next you'll be all done with your amazing journey through the Buffyverse. Not much to say about this ep since it don't remember much of it to be honest, and I pretty much just wanted to say how bittersweet this all feels. But I do remember that I, just like you, felt as if there needed to be a good bit more build up to this ep to give some explanation for Angels actions. Granted the big reveal towards the end changes how the whole story should be percieved, but still...
