I have 2 - 3Gs and used Blaikra1n to jailbreak both. Never experienced any problems. Each took about 30seconds literally without any problems. It was the "easiest" jailbreak ever and YES I was able to reload 3G unrestrictor and my other apps I purchased from iTunes and Cydia. BTW, Blaickra1n RC2 was just released overnight. You can download the new version directly from Blackra1n.com.

Thanks BayJacket. I'm assuming this will go for a 3GS as well. It's my wife's phone and I will be "DEAD MEAT" for sure if it gets screwed up. Its already JB but only running 3.0 software and some of the programs wanted from Cydia require she upgrade.

@SilkentJedi: Not really. The new estimated global breakdown is as follows; 90% PC 06% Linux 04% Mac ------------- PC have and will always win in the computer world. Apple is barely a 2nd (or 3rd) thought in the real world thus the reason virtually ALL hardware/software is developed for PC's. Actually, Apple is largely owned by Microsoft since they prevented Apple's collapse some years ago. Mac's are easier to develop for since their really isn't much to the OS. But they do have pretty GUI's to look at.

A new report posted on CNET states it appears Apple has finally put the Dev-Team out of business with its latest 3.1 software update. Perhaps this is why they have been so quiet (which I hope I am incorrect by the way) and there has been no news on a jailbreak for 3Gs's (either new out of the box or those that have been upgraded) for Windows users. Time to dump the iPhone (and ATT). It was great while it lasted.

Only "when" and "if" the Dev team or someone else releases a jailbreak update for 3.1. If you do update to 3.1 in order to add MMS functionality now available, you "will" in all likely hood lose your jailbreak. So the choices are 1. Upgrade to use MMS and lose your jailbreak; or 2. Do without MMS for now, keep your jailbreak and wait for a update to be released hopefully soon like so many of us are.

My guess is yes. If you update the carrier software enabling MMS you must 1st upgrade to 3.1 via iTunes. If anyone knows of another method than please share.

Thanks for the clarification. I've read here in several post and on other sites phones with the 3.1 software installed initially or via upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.1 become permanently immune to any future JB.

Everything I've read claims the upgrade to the 3.1. also upgrades the phones baseboard firmware. Not just the software firmware but the phones hardware itself. Therefore (and supposedly) preventing JB without also addressing the phones baseboard fimware issue in addition to the 3.1 software baseboard firmware. Again, this is based on everything I've read thus far on the topic. Please feel free to correct me though if I am wrong.

All new iPhones will have 3.1 [and] the updated basband installed. AT&T is "checking and performing in-store upgrades" even before handing you the phone. Therefore unless any new hacks including Pwnage 3.1 works with the updated baseband issue then the days of jailbreaking the iPhone are clearly over. Let's hope the Dev-team can come through for us.

Nicely stated ChromeDome. True many of the apps are free however some, not many I agree, are paid (supported) through "Donations". This is the financial or vested I was referring to. I also believe anyone who puts forth the effort all of these individuals or groups have done from which so many of us have benefited from deserve some manner of appreciation either through donations or buying products from their websites (BBoss, Saurik etc). I also am confident a solution to the this whole 3.1 fiasco will be forthcoming shortly.

I wouldn't be to harsh on those who have upgraded from 3.0.1 to 3.1.These are the same individuals who in one way or another (financially etc.) support the Dev-team, Saurik and all the others for their much appreciated efforts. In other words, don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I partially agree. However, at some point when everyone upgrades their 2G/3G phones or buys a new 3Gs that will have the 3.1 already installed on it and no jailbreak is available [it will] be the demise of the Devteam, Saurik and other like talented people and the vast number of websites that arisen from their efforts. Each of them know this to be true and that is why I believe a fix will be forthcoming from someone.

If the Devteam (or anyone else for that fact) cannot find a way to jailbreak the 3.1 with the new baseband fimware installed (i.e. new iphones) or ones that have been upgraded then this site and others like it will drop like fly’s and become extinct quickly. Far too many developers and others with vested interest have way to much to lose financially if the Devteam or anyone else fails to issue a update to jailbreak the 3.1 software quickly for BOTH the baseband firmware issue AND main application CPU firmware. I for one am confident the Devteam (or someone) will come through with a fix regardless what the knuckleheads at Apple try to do. IMO
