The right to vote is not given at birth obviously. Children can't vote. And it's not a human right. It is a privilege bestowed on those who pay taxes and abide by the law - essentially it's a contract with the state. If the state taxes you and makes laws then you should have a say in how that is done. However if, as Hirst has done, you breach that contract with the state by not living by the rules then you should forfeit that 'right' as part of the contract. And my main point still stands. As a voter I cannot change via the ballot box this decision made by unaccountable European judges; this is a situation which you support.

So Old Holborn celebrates undemocratic unaccountable European judges to make judgments against the wishes of the British people? There was a very good reason why it's taken so long for this judgment to be 'actioned' because it was politically toxic - i.e. not popular with the voters. At least one normally pro-European colleague said to me last night that he was truly appalled by this interference in our jurisdiction. I agree. Hilarious. Sorry Tom but what do you expect? If you vote for more powers to go to Europe then don't cry foul when things like this happen. If you put fingers in a socket don't complain if you get an electric shock. You, Labour, Cameron, Tories are selling us out.

Ah Press Gang, I loved that as a kid. When I tracked it down on DVD a few years ago, my wife enquired why I wanted to buy a children's show on DVD. After a couple of episodes she understood. "They made this for kids?" she said. Indeed. It put most other TV programmes at the time to shame.

There's a surprising lack of cynicism here Dizzy, how many of the suggestions do you think the coalition will actually take up? I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't amount to much more than one of Labour's infamous consultation exercise. It already starts with a very limited scope, as any attempts to reduce bureaucracy for businesses and improve civil liberties will come across a brick wall in the form of the EU
