TechCrunch : Don't Buy The HTC EVO, It Is A Seriously Flawed Device

So, to sum up, the problems are 1.) battery life, 2.) Sense, and 3.) a camera-save issue. Alright.... 1.) I have an Evo. I have been running it solid for the last week. So long as you turn off the power sucks when you're not using them (something very easy to do with widgets), the thing can last all friggin' night. Last night, I left my power cord at work and had to leave it off the charger. When I went to bed around 1, my battery was at 42% power. When I woke up around 9, it was at 28% power. You don't even need to use a task killer to manage this stuff. I admit, I hate that I can't leave 4G on all the time, but let's be honest. Given all this phone can do, it gets pretty decent battery life. Smartphones don't tend to have long battery lives, but you can get by with 1 charge a day if you're not stupid about it. 2.) I like Sense. This is a matter of preference, not a flaw. You can talk about the troubles of removing Sense, but maybe it's possible some folks DO want it? If I like Sense on my phone, you know how much effort I spend in removing it? Zero. And as for delayed updates....the Hero, the first Sense phone, received the update to 2.1 nine months after release. Despite all the complaints, this is STILL faster than the iPhone's release cycle. And they jumped from 1.5 to 2.1 which is arguably a much bigger jump than, say, from the 3G to the 3G S. If the worst that happens to me because I use Sense is that I'm going to get updates in a few months rather than a few weeks, I'm more than happy. Still way better than my dumbphone days when what you bought is what you got forever. Stop acting like they owe you updates now now now. 3.) The camera issue has already been fixed. I received a patch that addressed the issue within minutes of turning on my Evo. Your point is outdated and moot for new users. Please correct this.

You know, I've always thought that going to Australia, or maybe New Zealand, would be an awesome trip. My hope is dashed. :-(

I should wonder if it includes dollar theater tickets as well? And also, doesn't it include going to that guy you know's house, you know the one with the gigantic screen? But he's cool. He lets you come watch movies, just bring some sodas or something. That gets pretty complicated, because then you gotta find out the average cost of sodas, and then tack that on. :-)

/Film : Do You Care About a Fantastic Four Reboot?

There has got to be a limit on how soon you can think about a reboot. The last movie was only two years ago! Geez. I mean, I am a sucker for a superhero movie. Doesn't matter how bad it is, I'll probably watch it. Even Daredevil, which despite seeing it twice, I still say is the standard for terrible superhero (or any) movies. I'd watch it. But man is it annoying that "reboot" is becoming a trendy word for superhero movies.

/Film : Does Pixar Have a Problem Creating Good Female Characters?

/Film : Exclusive: Superman Returns Sequel To Be Titled Superman Unleashed?

Unleashed? Superman does not get.....unleashed. Rabid dogs get unleashed. Wolverine gets unleashed. Unleashed implies they were on a leash. Which implies they were trying to contain whatever it was that's being unleashed. Superman is powerful, but also heralded by the people. With a steady, resolute sense of justice, and a moral figure that everyone looks up to (or so the story goes). What the crap do you "unleash" about that? I'm gonna take my old-fashioned but respectable, upstanding grandfather....and "unleash" him. Totally inappropriate. Horrible idea. Stop thinking about how cool words sound and think about what they mean.

A movie can make money on reputation and fan devotion alone. Doesn't make it a great movie. And the numbers are thoroughly askew. Theatrical sales are a great way to superficially boost the reception of a movie, gauging the number of people who decided to see the movie based on trailers and hype. Ever walk out of a movie you paid money for feeling disappointed? Theatrical sales say nothing about the movie, and everything about the marketing. DVD sales, I'd say are worth a bit more. Folks buy DVDs for better reasons than anticipation. According to the the-numbers.com (great site, by the way, thanks), the week prior, Ice Age: The Meltdown took in $129 mil. Two weeks prior to that, Cars took in $242 mil. The week after Superman Returns came out, Pirates 2 brought in $320 mil. Need more? In 2006 alone: Walk the Line : $123 mil Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: $215 mil Chicken Little: $141 mil Chronicles of Narnia, Lion Witch and the Wardrobe: $352 mil Eight Below: $104 mil X-Men: The Last Stand : $103 mil Click : $81 mil Over the Hedge: $126 mil Talladega Nights: $84 mil The Devil Wears Prada: $95 mil And I think my favorite: Lady and the Tramp - 50th Anniversary Edition: $121 mil. Is it impressive to bring in $80 million in DVD sales? Sure. Does it live up to what Superman is, and more importantly, what they hyped Superman to be? No. Superman was a disappointment. But seriously, though. I like that site.

/Film : The Twilight Saga's New Moon

"The Twilight Saga's New Moon"? What the f.....? Seriously?! That is a HORRIBLE title. Made worse by the fact that the book doesn't even call itself that. Seriously...what the....... The only reason I can figure they'd call it "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" (blegh) is that they're afraid that it would suffer "Wait, a second, that's a series?" syndrome. Sure, if the book were originally titled Twilight: New Moon, it would be more obvious to non-readers that it's the sequel. Screw that. You've got a big enough fanbase as it is. The fans will fill everyone else in.....at least three times. Ugh. Plegh. Blurgh. Oh, and P.S. Best not to post any spoilers about the Twilight franchise. The author might get pissy and decide she doesn't want to release the next movie. :-/
