I'm sorry to sidetrack the post but this comment raises an issue which quite interests me. I think the US system of recruiting Cabinet ministers from the private sector with MPs vetting panels and a nomination process is a very good idea. It will become almost essential for us to adopt when the HoL is changed and we lose the trick of creating a peer in order to give someone a Govt ministerial job. Or when we pick someone at random and give them an unaccountable 'job' like this. It gives some scrutiny and avoids what we've got here - a "tsar" or whatever who is appointed without overview. Carol (and I am genuinely on nodding terms with her so I can do that) and others like her should be scrutinised and approved for jobs like that - and then paid and their reports taken seriously. In this case it's so arms length that there's no point. And MILF? I first met her when she'd just become Mrs King which was a bit of a passion killer. But from behind my anonymity I can freely say that...yes. In spades.

In the same way that Labour allowed the CRB to collect *gossip and rumour* and stuck it on a database which was open to the WitchFinder Generals who drive the kiddy-fiddler-suspecting Outrage Bus, it looks like the same thing is appearing in politics. Remember that the CRB were/are allowed to record unconfirmed and unverified denunciations by your neighbours? Now being libertarian (ish, I'm not jumping on the purity test treadmill) now, politically, this could make me a 'danger' if I'm reported. I made a comment on this at Sue's place - Muffled Vociferation - that this could put my gun license in jeopardy for example. Is this the intention? That anyone who believes in a small State can be blacklisted from govt jobs maybe? It's not a slippery slope; it's a vertical cliff face.

Bonneville must be an absolutely fantastic thespian. A wonderful actor and basically a deity walking on the Earth. Surely there can be no other reason for this endless media attention? Frankly having never heard of him until recently I'm delighted that he's getting all this focus. It means that if any gossip or scandal ever appears about him I'll now know exactly who he is.

I play poker for serious stakes and two of our regulars are lawyers. Oh yes, when it comes to bluffing they are 24-carat cunts. And the ambulance chasing one out-bluffs the Government barrister every time. Good post, but my bullshitometer blew up at "If she'd got pregnant nobody would say...would they?" There is *no* possible legal dividing line between the two. Where can you draw a distinction in law? Accept one liability and you accept the whole range. The fact is that her claim must fail, but bits of us all expect it'll pass. Truly we are fucked (literally in this case for her). No picture of her available so no chance of an "I'd stick my bulb in her and light her up" type comment......shame.

The twitter tag has provided comedy gold and one or two bursts of absolute genius. I really recommend you going back on it if you get the chance AE. Splendid post, too. I liked it because when I first read that article I reacted exactly the same way as you did. Even the pauses for breath to rearrange my ribs were at the same time as yours. They say that the best posts you read are the ones you were thinking yourself but weren't fast enough to write down. You hit it word for word :-)

There's a lot of unpleasantness going on here, as you so rightly say Grim. Wait for his body to cool down before launching into the conspiracy theories. The SKY comments column about this is stupid. They've deleted (most of) the nasty comments as the day has gone on but left the ones which quote the unpleasantness in an effort to deny it. News organisations like Sky should have adopted the ConHome approach of having a 'no comments allowed' post. The Telegraph probably have - that's their style and to be copied. If he was my mate or part of my family I'd hope for some respect round about now. In a few weeks I might be part of the 'grassy knoll' team...but today....not right.

You are quite right to obey UK law and be careful of what you say. As an overseas blogger with a site hosted overseas I had no such restrictions posting full details of the initial tranche of superinjunctions over on MF (initials only as I don't want to linkwhore) But to be fair; now the whole thing is getting boring. The first pile has a frisson of excitement because we *weren't allowed to know*. There was an underground vibe to it all. Who cared what the story was because it was a secret and therefore desirable. A buzz for those who were just a tiny bit late to the game but wanted to catch up. Now we know the truth. If Giggs had been exposed in the Sun he would have been a headline for a day, an 'inside' for a week and the story would be long forgotten. Only the injunction thing gave it legs, And to be fair, anyone who is so sad that they are using search engines this far into any similar story are so stupidly out of the game that they might as well look for carrier pigeons for info. So with all due respect to what might be a story worthy of the inside pages of the Daily Mail, I offer you the fact that Cole once said in an interview..."if I was told the world had only one day left I would spend it with friends and family". No, you wouldn't. You'd spend it trying to hide from me trying to fullfil *my* last-day-on-earth fantasy :-)
