Addictive Thoughts : Slash - "Slash"

I actually have two Alter Bridge albums. Just not really keen on their sound...sorry if you disagree with me, although to be fair I actually meant to write Creed, not Nickelback. I'll edit my review.

Ha, I can't believe I wrote that. I actually have all their albums and have been (somewhat of) a fan for a while. Dunno how I did that. Thanks for pointing out the mistake though!

Juan is actually a new writer for the site. XD (I don't usually use text smiley faces etc., but it seems to fit well here.) I haven't written anything since the Radiohead article. I'm going to try to get on it more but starting up school has taken away too much of my time. I appreciate you disabling Adblock. You know, I'm not sure how the whole AdSense thing works because I know people have clicked them before and yet Google tells me I have $0.00 in collections. I give up.

Addictive Thoughts : Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones Are... Them Crooked Vultures!

I've been wondering that myself. I hope Homme does most of (if not all) the vocals. Dude's got the definition of a rock n' roll voice.

Addictive Thoughts : Jay-Z Debuts \"Blueprint 3\" Album Artwork

I noticed that too. I'm also not too big on the horizontal stripes because they remind me of U2's album art for "No Line on the Horizon." But I kinda dig the image otherwise, and the fact that it's so different from all his others -- maybe the music will follow suit...

Addictive Thoughts : Growing Backwards: "Weeds" Season 5

It's funny that you'd say that, since I even made a point to mention that the show was never "revelatory or mindblowing like some of its HBO and Showtime counterparts" -- in other words, it was never a masterpiece to begin with; did you just skim the article and miss this? Because you're basically arguing my own point. As for your "wa wa I don't want the world to change" comment -- once again, I specifically stated that the concept of change for the program in itself isn't a bad thing. And nowhere in the article did I imply that the show was as good as "Freaks and Geeks" or "Arrested Development"; the point is merely that all good shows tend to have their lesser moments. Even "The Wire" had a relatively bad season. (Of course, "bad" for The Wire is probably still better than most shows.)

You mentioned the abortion protester, and it's a good point. I think a lot of the "minor" characters are incredibly lame; a great example would be the extortionist cop, or the corrupt teacher. That whole storyline was played really slapstick and lighthearted, but within the same episode we're seeing Nancy being raped or whatever, and it just feels like two completely different shows butting heads.

Addictive Thoughts : For Posterity's Sake: The Infamous Ryan S./John Coltrane Pitchfork Review

I assure you that we can spot "the references" and "the satire." The point is that it's bad satire. And while people are getting hung up on the "racist" aspect, that's just one of many complaints it usually receives. The biggest complaint generally seems to be that it's entirely miscalculated humour that winds up being rather embarrassing.

Addictive Thoughts : Simple Minds - Graffiti Soul

It sounds to me that you're probably letting your apparent admiration for the band effect your own hearing. Believe it or not, last time I checked, it wasn't "cool" or "hip" to dislike a pop band who barely achieve any notoriety in this country. And I'm not sure how you can count a rather fair, critical review as a "bashing," but all I can offer is that I would have been happy to have enjoyed this album. Many of my favourite artists are older rock bands; your theory is flawed, to say the least. I reviewed the album because I enjoy the group's earlier output. I listened to this record with an open mind; I did not like it (and, in this regard, my opinion fits in well with many professional journalists who noted the same complaints). I also find it ironic that someone preaching wisdom to the unfortunate youth of the world seems quite incapable of forming a coherent sentence. Perhaps you should spend less time making overzealous assumptions about people.

Addictive Thoughts : Dinosaur Jr. - Farm

Thanks for the comment. "Green Mind," in particular, is a very good record. But the band moved increasingly towards becoming a Mascis solo act in the mid- to-late '90s; there isn't anything inherently wrong with that, but when he was left to his own vices writing all the songs and recording most of the instruments, you had to question whether this "band" still deserved to be labeled Dinosaur Jr. By "critical disappointments," I was namely referring to "Without a Sound" and "Hand it Over" (the latter of which was a good album, but not the critical/artistic success you claim -- the reviews written at the time of its release are still around, mind). None of their albums were ever generally dismissed by critics, but there was certainly a sequential drop. Ultimately, I don't think I was telling anyone to skip their '90s output altogether, and while I could have been clearer in my examples, I don't think it's unfair to imply the group struggled a bit - financially and critically - at varying points during the '90s. (I do like the Fog albums, btw.)
