The news is spinning the attacks to be retaliation by Muslim "jihadists" in a response to Canada's active role in the fight against IS. Our PM put us in place by co sponsoring the UN resolution without at least getting a mandate from Parliament to do so. Hence possibly putting us in danger through such autocratic actions.
This has nothing to do with a coup as any informed individual can clearly see.

The Minister should take cognisance of the fact that the biggest risk/threats to our democracy come from inside our Parliament rather than from external individuals or forces. We have more to fear from politicians and their cronies than they do from us.

Added to which what of the protection of the common man? As far as I can see the ordinary citizens are almost excluded from consideration in every single plan (I use the term loosely) when it comes to nnational security.

Guess he forgot about the events of 1990 and the murders he and his followers committed. Add that to his links with various unsavoury characters and the burgeoning ISIS issue.....no surprise he was deemed persona non grata.

Which businessman would speak ill of a readily available pool of workers who will gladly work for less than minimum wage and make little to no noise when "advantaged" aka NIS, H/S etc being deducted but never remitted?

How important is it that his name is on a plaque or that he was present at the opening?
Does that affect the quality of care given at the unit? Does it make the opening more or less gala?

It seems that this is, above all, a matter of ego and political show (more pictures for the papers)

Would it be sensible to hold off the opening till it was most convenient for the Minister....while patients wait to be tended to? Lets be real....we now have gala openings for stand pipes all sorts of trivial things. Focus on the ultimate customer and serving them....not the photography.

Based on that price increase the tax percentage has dropped. All the while their profits will be rising onwards and upwards with little help for those who feel the effects of tobacco addiction its related ailments.

And what is the result?
Downtown floods after a drizzle, Westmoorings is an earthquake away from slipping into the sea....the areas around the CRH are flood zones as a result...with huge puddles on the highway itself.
We are paying for poor planning and development controls. We cannot widen the EMR, SMR or any of the other major roadways as properties have been allowed to jam right up onto them.

Using the foolish mistakes of the past is not a good argument for present errors.

Since when is learning from mistakes and improving an objective of this (or any other) government?
We have seen so many missteps and yet they still continue to this day....with the same dotishness. We keep talking about vision, diversification, improvement and development....yet we cannot drag our public services and institutions out of the mental dark ages.
While the cowboy minister must take the ultimate blame there are so many levels between him and the "boots on the ground". Each and every one should be held accountable in some way form or fashion...or else this will be a recurring situation until regional/international embarrassment occurs.

Valid points and concerns. Toco is not as lucky as Mayaro and Guaya who benefit from the benevolence of the energy players. Out of sight...out of mind.
I am happy that the Dubai model was pointed out as time goes on it increasingly seems obvious that we will be doomed to face the effects of the Dutch disease or "Lara effect" as one of my ex lecturers put it.
