My grandfather was a christian, not pro-abortion, was not particularly fond of the gay movement, and hated black people. His hatred of blacks was nearly matched by his hatred of republicans. He was a relic of the old "Solid South." When I told him I was a republican, he stared me in the eye for a good minute in contempt.

That aside, my values are such that marriage is sacred. Its more than just two people who are "friends" hanging out all the time(and that goes for both same and opposite sex marriages). Its a relationship so special and coveted, that it needs to be started by a singular ceremony where all the couples friends and relatives can be there to witness and celebrate it. I personally consider gay marriage a debasement of that. Thats my view, and we can have a national discussion and go through the democratic process on deciding the legality and acceptance of gay marriage. Still, if and when they cant have it democratically, they sue through courts to force it on everyone anyway. All the while smearing anyone who disagrees for whatever reason.

Me personally? Not particularly. Society? Chyeah! I thought the conversation was about how there is no gay agenda. But lets derail that into another "what does it hurt?" argument. Gays have higher rates of every STD, mental disorders, alcohol and nicotine dependence, uncommon conditions such as anal cancer and hepatitus, AND therefore a lower life expectancy. Still, I am and will continute to be, labeled a homophobe for not considering homosexuality the absolute equivalent of heterosexuality.

From the standpoint of a Southern Baptist having grown up in a First Baptist Church in Mississippi all of my life, I can claim no link to the Westboro Baptist Church sect. I dont mean in what they do, with all the protests and the name calling, etc. I mean theologically too. I watched their spokeswoman "debate" (more like rant at) a fox news reporter about how her god is a hateful, wrathful god whose face is aflame, etc. God hates sin, yes, but he is absolutely crazy about us. He shows that time and time again throughout the new testament. I dont understand where she is coming from. If she reads the same Bible I do then I cant fathom where she gets the idea that God has nothing but hatred for all of us except their one little church in Kansas. Insofar as I have seen of them in the news and on youtube, there is nothing Christ-like about their whole organisation. They can call themselves "baptists" but I dont see the any likeness to what I have grown up around. Mrs. Weiss might do good to consider who she automatically groups with the WBC protesters.
