WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : South Bend pays to settle excessive force suit | WSBT - News, Weather, Sports South Bend | Local New

Ok, so we MAY not have all the facts as the "officer, ConcernedCritic" states, however can someone please explain to me why this guy still has his badge????? I don't care what the situation was or warranted, there is no excuse for this type of behavior or incorrect dispatch reporting while in pursuit. Secondly, why even more does he still have a badge after punching a fellow officer in the face for shooting at his dog, when it's pretty clear there are some issues with this K9 officer and he as well should be relieved of duty. I would not want to be a South Bend Police officer working with this jerk or his K9. God help everyone who does have to work with him that they make it home every night to their loved ones because of his recklessness

WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : Local uncertainty growing as unemployment extension bill stalls out in Congress | WSBT - News, Weath

I am not married and carry the sole burden of household expenses myself, so I had no one to turn to, so although I DO NOT AGREE with everything that is happening in our country right now, for those who think the extensions should stop, I pray for th em that they will never end up in my or others who are in my boat because then they just might understand what we are going through.

What I think some people who feel enough is enough on the extensions is that there are ALOT of unemployed people that ARE consistently looking for work, jobs are not as plentiful as some think, and those that are some many are being deemed "over" qualified for, so they are going to less skilled. I am not one for increasing the deficiet, however I think we need to worry more about those unemployed who what no one seem to every mention is the fact that unemployment even at the top weekly benefit is only $390. I AM one of the unemployed and my income when I was working before being laid off was more than twice that amount take home every week. Now I was fortunate to have put back a rainy day fund, but when you lose more than half your income my rainy day fund didn't take long to be used up with basic household bills, and oh yeah I was told I didn't qualify for any type of assistance.

WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : South Bend firefighter punished for having alcohol at station | WSBT - News, Weather, Sports South B

WOW that's pretty harsh an off duty fire fighter possessing an alcholic beverage.. hmmmm sounds as though the fire department is trying to set an example.... maybe we need these guys to treat south bend police officers who are driving their police cruisers off duty and have a drink should face the same penalty, because we all know that doesn't happen. All this over an otherwise excellent captain because he made a poor judgement call. What a shame for the city to respond in this fashion, when this man along with his fellow firefighters put their lives on the line to keep everyone safe in the city and what thanks do they get??

WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : Officer accused of hitting man with car | WSBT - News, Weather, Sports South Bend | Local News

Seems pretty amazing to me that all this officer would get is a 30 day suspension without pay after using his squad car to hit a person(suspect) as a means to stop him, and apparantely also break 3 other departmental duty manual rules, but yet most us average citizens would probably be terminated by their employers. I understand law enforcement comes with alot of risks, but it seem as though if we don't stop enabling those who can't accept their risks and responsibilities of their "CHOSEN" profession, they need to be dismissed. And yes, I will say it before it may be said.. I have family in law enforcement and would feel EXACTLY the same way if it were them who had done this action.

I personal am extremely disguisted with this person, I think the most effective way for justice to be served in this case would be to let the other Mishawaka and South Bend canine officer at him. The could most effectively and appropriately achieve justice for both these fallen officers. God bless them and their families, but I have no confidence in the judicial system, it's obvioulsy already failed on multiple counts with this man.

I wonder what Indiana would do in the event that a second human officer was in the car and also killed? How would the charged be held accountable then? How would he been aware that there were 2 humans in the pursing vehicle. That's another excuse from the courts of Indiana who do not feel canines are as important as there human partners. It is a bunch of BS and it needs to be changed. These were both law enforcement officers, and I am sure that Corporal Szuba would completely agree. This community lost 2 officers that night, and that is how it should be charged!! God Bless them both.
