Pwnage = OSX only. Also is able to make fancy ROMS with more features. Redsn0w = Windows and OSX. Easy to use. Not as many features.

The phone just doesn't have the hardware to connect to TMobile's 3G network, no matter how hacked the software becomes. You should be able to tether over edge, though you probably won't enjoy it.

Crashes only apply to iPhone users. Ignore them. What you want is a jailbreak, and you have to wait until Apple releases version 4.0 of the iPhone/iPod touch software before the Dev Team will even try to make another jailbreak.

Finding a crack is not easy. It's like shooting in the dark. When they hit something, they don't advertise it until they can exploit it to their best advantage. That is why they wait.

You don't need any sn0w with an official carrier. Restore to 3.1.2 (like you did before), but set up as new phone, not restore. Then jailbreak with redsn0w (it is a little more reliable).

Yes, though you have to point redsn0w to a 3.1.2 IPSW to make it work. The phone can be on 3.1.3, though.

Don't restore to 3.1.3, that will kill your opportunity. Rather, you need to run redsn0w on your device for a tethered jailbreak. You can not restore, however, because Apple has stopped signing 3.1.2. Better hope you don't need to restore!

You would have to do a restore in iTunes, possibly from DFU mode. I advise against it.
