The total number of US farms has increased by 4% since 2002. As stated by a number of recent articles, micro and part time farms have been increasing dramatically.

Though there are less middle-sized farms, as defined by the USDA, there are markedly more small operations. Unfortunately, the bulk of production has continued to concentrate.

As stated before, I'm not a member of, or affiliated with HSUS. Though, I don't have a personal agenda against them as you seem to be pursuing with gusto. And as you may have noticed, we're not in California and I wasn't referring to their legislation. Keep trolling, though.

I agree, most farmers do care about their land and their animals, deeply. Many keep part of their land in conservation easements. Like all industries, there are exceptions to the rule and growing costs make it difficult at times. Some feed mixes do contain antibiotics, unfortunately, and a lot of animals are fed with them. I don't think Ms.Ford meant to discredit anyone, just share her experiences on why she's vegetarian.

I hope we can manage to re-vamp the way we distribute food and can increasingly eat locally produced foods. It not only supports the local economy, and cuts down on transportation costs, but avoids widespread outbreaks of things like e.coli and salmonella .

Things have changed in farming over the years, but more small farms are opening lately, more are converting to be less reliant on chemicals. I don't know a single farmer who doesn't do the best they can with what they have. I know that's the case with my family. Being a good agriculturalist requires constant research and careful management. I admire those who are dedicated enough to be in the profession, whether they raise meat or not.

Jindal definitely was not up to par for that rebuttal. I was a little taken aback at his speech, myself. I was expecting his usual sharp-witted self, and Mister Rogers showed up instead! If some of last year's campaigns taught politicians anything, it's to be careful who your handlers are! Hopefully, he'll be back to usual next time he's on the national stage and won't be attempting to convince everyone he's a 'regular joe.'

Perhaps if they had the option of permanence, they would take it more often. As it is, committed gay and lesbian couples exist. You may not know any, but I do.

Eighteen-thousand couples in California alone are married, though there are people who would have their marriages invalidated. If my relationships were constantly the object of public scorn, I'd have trouble maintaining one, too. You probably would, as well. If you can picture a situation where you are not a straight male.

You probably mean 'Sppnish' as in Latin-Americans(no one is Spanish-American unless they're actually from Spain). Not the Spanish in Spain...where gay marriage is legal, correct?

Soooo, in essence...you're saying someone who is not a believer, yet has a Phd. in biblical studies would not understand? That's...interesting.

I think you messed up your Freudian slip a couple of posts up. The guys vs. gays. Why not correct spelling before you post? It only takes a few extra seconds and it really makes your posts more cohesive. I'm not trying to pick on you, it's just that some things you post take a few seconds to decipher.

Rabbi simply means 'teacher,' he was not an officially ordained Rabbi. However, Jesus was a very wise man, many people looked up to him as a teacher, someone to give sound advice. Not someone to deal out condemnation, damnation and all those other -ations you seem fond of.

Ok...maybe mediation.

Aww, that would be poetic, very 20's noir. I'd take some Glen-Livet on the rocks, myself. CR strikes me as more of a light beer guy, though. What do you say CR? If someone were buying a round, what would it be?

Yep, it just means 'of a kind, 'alike,' blahblahblah. I have no idea why it's gotten such bad connotations over the years. Poor word.

Well! In that case, any idea on how many straight marriages last? Around 50% end in divorce! Perhaps you need to worry more about protecting marriage from straight people than from those who are gay. It seems like it's crumbling from the inside, more than being attacked by a small minority from the outside. Remember, they are a small minority, unlike the 2.2 million heterosexuals who marry each year.

I'd think people wanting to commit themselves to long-term monogamous relationships and not continually have short-term noncommittal ones would be a good thing. Just think of the increased stability with such a binding option.

Get off the message boards and get crackin' on reforming heterosexual marriage from the inside! It's a much worthier crusade. Pre- and post-marital counseling, support for couples who are considering divorce, there are myriad ways to help your neighbors that don't involve accusing others of fallacies and would be God approved.

What is with calling people 'ilk'? Surely you don't think calling people names will convert them to seeing things your way.
