Acritic, I so appreciate your thoughts. I don't know the full story, and am sad to read such inflammatory remarks. It is my opinion that those people who feel so very compelled to sit on high horses, are a bit nasty or mean spirited. This is a situation which is serious, and involves fraud. That should be enough to keep these blood sucking people happy, at least until they find another way to occupy themselves.

This is a tragic story. Clearly everyone agrees that fraud has been committed, with very serious consequences. I agree. What bothers me, is that some people appear to enjoy crucifixion. Isn't it obvious that the family will suffer? That they will pay severe consequences, and will do so without your vicious opinions? Does it feel good to you to condemn? There is no positive here.

Oh my. Name calling. I think you need a lesson on mature debate, because then perhaps you might be able to articulate your thoughts in a more sophisticated manner.

Well then, I am glad it was only stealing money and not murder. What is your point? Are murderers allowed in the PTA? Try sticking to the facts. Your comments are simply ridiculous.

I am encouraged by recent news that our school board has decided not to seek an injunction against striking teachers. This is good news for all parties. An injunction would have only fueled the debate and slowed much needed progress at the bargaining table. We need the BSD and BEA to sit down and negotiate a fair contract now, so that we may begin the school year on Monday or Tuesday! I have complete confidence in our union representatives. Teachers stand firm in their resolve to obtain a fair contract. The level of union support is palpable on the picket lines. My hope is that the BSD puts a serious offer on the table today so that we can begin the school year ASAP.

AlkiJoe, Society, our local communities, taxpayers and special interest groups all need to put kids first, as do parents and teachers as they work together to support kids. It is common knowledge that teachers are known for putting kids first. Sadly, there are those people who actually have the nerve to say, "Well you chose to teach, so you knew you shouldn't expect to be well paid". Might such ignorant comments suggest that society holds the misguided opinion that we are the ONLY ones who are required to put kids first at our own expense? If you truly knew how hard teachers work because they do care and do put kids first, I suspect you might never feel so way off base.

Husky99, In our public school system, the BSD has embraced "The Virtues Project", a program which teaches people (adults and children) about character development . We speak about virtues such as honor, caring, tact, understanding, diligence and respectfulness. After reading your post, I had to reflect on why character education is so important for our children. The Virtues Project is designed to help build children's characters, so that when they become adults they will be able to write articulate and respectful opinions. I trust that all caps tirades using words like "hens" and "morons" isn't being promoted by the private schools your children attend.

bschmidt, I want to thank you for your comments. While you express frustration and disagreement, I applaud your ability to do so in a respectful manner. I wish more people were able to communicate their views, pro or con, in such an articulate way. Your opinions will naturally be considered with a much greater degree of thoughtfulness. I respect your opinion on this strike and can easily understand your anger. In the short term, I also appreciate that you feel helpless to effect change. However, I wouldn't underestimate your power and encourage you to continue to voice your opinion!

WSU, Oh my. I believe the company's name is Microsoft. Perhaps you've seen mention of it in the news. I do apologize for correcting you, but there really is only so much one can take, before feeling compelled to do so. I do trust this is no reflection upon WSU, but it does speak rather loudly about you. Fire them all? Well, there you may have a point. The BSD certainly may choose to do so. Still, I suspect instead you will find us on the picket lines tomorrow nonetheless. Should the BSD opt to hire replacements, I can find work elsewhere. However, I don't think Micro Soft is hiring, as it doesn't exist.

Guiness, The teachers are not crying. We are picketing for fair compensation. If you compare our salaries with our cost of living, you will learn that our ability to purchase goods and services is far below that of teachers who serve in other districts. We are fully-grown and dealing with the same economy as you. However, there is a rather big difference between us. You have resorted to name calling and swearing, whereas teachers are able to consider your viewpoint and to respond to you without resorting to juvenile name calling and cursing.

Angry Mom, You underestimate the strong level of parent and community support, which is clearly communicated to striking teachers on the picket line. The union membership stands firm in their beliefs and resolve to obtain a fair contract.

Thank you Bellevue Parent! I am proud to be a teacher in the Bellevue School District. Employees on the picket line appreciate the powerful support of our parent community. Our student population is fortunate to have well educated parents who are very involved in their children’s education. The curriculum web is a great resource and means by which teachers are able to share information district wide and dialogue with one another to improve instruction. However, it is clear that the degree to which the district is imposing lock step use of this rich resource is unacceptable to teachers. We are keenly aware that the imposition of such restraints decreases our ability to effectively serve all learners. The BSD employs teachers who are highly qualified and dedicated. We are determined to negotiate a fair contract, which compensates us fairly and respects our professional judgment. Teachers have complete confidence in our union representatives and will stand firm. I want to return to my classroom and begin this school year as soon as possible. Parents, teachers and students are all negatively impacted by a strike. However, school will remain closed until our negotiations with the BSD are concluded to our satisfaction.
