Macleans.ca : The Night of 1,000 Delusions

One thing is for certain is that the world changed. Bin Laden - Poor virgins Quebec NDP caucus - Poor virgins, Mr Harper thinks you are scrumptious. Jack Layton - Hahahahaha, maybe there is enough brainpower left in the Liberal power to hang back on those merger talks long enough to watch this character fizzle under the Con majority. Is he the last Canadian to realize he is irrelevant? Great comedic potential is all you can really expect from the NDP for the next 4 years. Iggy - Whoops that was a mistake. To stay with the virgin theme, he is no longer a political one. SH - bend over Canada Leftists. This won't hurt a bit.

I love how the Conservatives will go to the ends of the earth to justify their bad judgment rather than do the right thing and apologize. Predictable as they take their cue from the man at the top.

Macleans.ca : Orange prudence

"and engage in the worst kind of petro-populism." How do you characterize reducing the GST, a consumption tax, rather than reducing an personal income taxes? I'm far from convinced that the NDP are good stewards of the economy but I am not in favour of a Conservative government that trumpets a GST reduction and does nothing about personal income taxes and at the same time reduces corporate taxes as fast as they can get away with.

Macleans.ca : The NDP is bad, except when it's not

Torpedoing Iggy with non-stop attack ads for a couple years only to see Jack pop up in the polls must give the Clownservatives a real a$$burn. For that reason alone I like it. Re: "The Massage" Yawn, non-issue. I hope it blows back on whoever the culprit is. It sounds like this story was widely known in the MSM for at least 3 years but only Sun Media was dumb enough to think it was newsworthy. What do you expect from amateur clowns??

Macleans.ca : Take a seat, esteemed colleague—if you can

The scenario where the NDP form the official opposition has the most humour potential and the one that would drive the Clownservatives the most crazy. Imagine spending millions for a couple years to beat the Iggy=bad message into Canadian heads only to have Jack 'in a box' Layton pop up and be the new bad man in official opposition. Ooops. The cons never say that coming. Time to retool the attack ads. Other humour potential: Being a fly on the wall in NDP caucus as they try to cost out all those wonderful promises they won't be able to keep.

Excerpt from: Statistical probabilities by Aaron Wherry on Thursday, March 3, 2011 9:18am Consider, for instance, that the last three changes in government were not obviously foretold by publicly available polling data released immediately before the election was called. In November 2005, with a few exceptions, the lead for the governing Liberals was variously reported to be between five and nine points. An election was called on November 28 and two months later the Conservatives won the popular vote by six points. A Gallup poll in August 1993, gave the Liberals a one-point lead over the governing Progressive Conservatives among decided voters, 34% to 33%. As to who would make the best prime minister, Kim Campbell led Jean Chretien by a wide margin, 47% to 24%. An election was called on September 8 and six weeks later Chretien’s Liberals won 41% of the popular vote and 177 seats in the House. Campbell’s Tories, with 16% of the vote, were reduced to two seats. In June 1984, Gallup gave the governing Liberals a 12-point lead over the Progressive Conservatives, 40% to 28%. The new leader of the Liberal party, John Turner, enjoyed a 20-point lead over Brian Mulroney, 46% to 26%. An election was called on July 4 and two months later Mulroney’s Conservatives won 211 seats with 50% of the popular vote. Turner’s Liberals were reduced to 40 seats with 28% of the popular vote. http://www2.macleans.ca/2011/03/03/statistical-pr...

Per vote subsidies is a bit of a yawner for me IMO. It may not be such a bad thing to get rid of them as it reduces the splintering effect of parliament with small parties pulling in different directions. Yes Green Party I am talking about you. OTOH isn't that what democracy is about? You hit a certain voter threshold so you get funded. I can see why Harper would not like that. Democracy...elections...open dialogue... it's all messiness that IS a distraction to Dear Leader.

In the 2008 campaign Flaherty refused to debate his decision to destroy Income Trusts. Brent Fullard of the Canadian Association of Income Trust Investors offered to donate $50,000 to the charity of Flaherty's choice to engage in the debate. The premise on which the Conservatives based their decision was tax leakage and Fullard was prepared to challenge that falsehood in a debate. http://caiti-online.blogspot.com/2011/04/harper-i... So not much of a surprise that Harper is as much of a coward when it comes to facing a knowledgeable opponent.
