Let the homeless take shelter in the old firestation. Especially families with children. Don't make them sleep in doorways or under bridges. They are our own American citizens, for Pete's sake. Besides, we already have social services that the homeless need, at McDermott House. Plus, good bus service, discount foods, thrift-stores, schools, library, etc. Who are they hurting?

I live a few blocks from the old Fire Station in Lake City, and I welcome the homeless people to spend the cold winter here. They were here last winter, and they were no trouble at all , that I could see. I would even go to visit them, and take some needed items, like coats, blankets, bedding, etc Lake City is a good place for them to stay. We have Social Services, Medical Care (based on income), a Food Bank, a discount Grocery Outlet, busses galore, a Library, a credit union, etc. Other neighborhoods do not have that kind of amenities for the homeless. It's selfish to throw our own citizens outdoors in cold weather. Anyone of us could have a sudden reversal-of-fortune, and then be one of them. So, have a heart.
