I love Tom to death, but he really chose the wrong week to make a mistake. I'm glad he stood by it though, and he took the heat without complaint, without whining. It was a bold choice, and I totally give him credit for trying it. Tom, you may not be the design star winner, but you could come design a room in my house any day. :)

HGTV Design Star : Dooce's Recap: Oh no, Dan! Energize me! Make me nicer!

Tom's become my favorite to win, and Nina is one that my girlfriend and I have been cheering on since episode one....to lose! GAAAAAHH Just get rid of her. Please! The other designers can't do ANYTHING with her around. Those scribbles...iiiick. She should have listened to Emily, because it looked like she had no plan or purpose for it other than to do something there. Lame. But she just pushes through and says "Well, I'm doing it anyways!" and that isn't being a team player.

HGTV Design Star : Dan is Your Favorite Designer!

It IS about being different and daring. I recall them getting rid of a few people on the show for textbook design, things they've seen a million times, and all out boring design, no matter how well designed and traditional it was. When everyone, including David Bromstead, says to be more daring with design, and then everyone wants one person to NOT be daring, THAT'S STUPID. The three judges said from the start that they wanted someone different, and the only one who was at all different was Antonio. Yes, Dan's designs were beautiful, but half of them I've seen before, and his hosting was very traditional. Antonio had a style and flair for both design and hosting, and while some people might not like his designs, some of us really do! I love modern, exciting spaces. My love for minimalist design made me love Matt last season, but obviously not everyone shares the same tastes I do. I don't expect someone to like the exact styles I like, but I would expect HGTV viewers to appreciate a designer's skill no matter what. I don't always like Vern's designs, I don't always like David's designs, etc. but that doesn't make them bad designers overall. And isn't that what makes HGTV so great? You might not like the style, you might not like the solution, but it gives you a different answer to the problem that you might have never considered. Sometimes we hate it, but it's those times when we say "I would love a room like that," that makes us keep watching the channel. So keep watching Antonio. He may surprise you in his show.

HGTV Design Star : Dan is Your Favorite Designer!

What do you mean I can't compare this year's to last year's? With fan voting, it turns into a popularity contest half the time. Look at American Idol! This year, we had 3 judges who know what it's like to have their own show, and have spent many years as designers. And honestly, Dan was great, but Antonio was more daring with his design. He took more risks than any other person in the competition, and stood up for his decisions no matter what. He was also pushed to the side by all the other designers, and was left with all the carpentry. When Antonio was put on a job, it got done, and it got done RIGHT. Everyone blasted him for his white room challenge, but only because he did the room in a different fashion than the others. There wasn't any requirement about how much grocery stuff was supposed to be in the room. Next, with the celebrity homes, he wasn't the best, but he did something different than the last week, unlike Lonni who repeated the same thing for every room after being complimented on it in one room (also the fact that it was very similar to Jen's style from Season 3). Antonio dared to put unconventional colors on walls, and he made the kid's room look so much cooler (and much more functional, to boot) than anyone else in that episode. Obviously we weren't all watching the same show, because those episodes prove that Antonio was a good designer and worthy of being the next Design Star.

God, I'm so sick of people hating on Antonio and saying they won't watch his show. Both designers have their strengths and weakness. I would have loved to see Matt win last year, because I thought he was the best designer. But Jen was also a good designer, and Matt's loss won't stop me from watching her show. Dan will have a great show online, and Antonio will have a great show on TV. Get over it! Congrats Dan! I can't wait to see your online show!

HGTV Design Star : David's Vlog: Where's the Design?

I love Antonio, and as much as he is rough around the edges, if you go back and watch the previous episodes, everyone else has been pushing him around. He's always been pushed into being the carpenter, while the others do all the design work. He DESERVES to start pushing others around to make the judges see his talent. And when he does push for something he would like to see in the design (not going with tan walls, the pink accents in the first episode, etc) it looks amazing. And in those episodes, his team stuck their noses up at every idea he had. But when the elimination comes, he's sitting on top. It seems like the others just want to ride Antonio's coattails, because they know he can design well.
