Our pleasure! You should likely listen to our podcast episode so you can decide whether or not we know it's a joke. We scratch your back. You scratch ours. Makes sense, no? Anyway, we also had no idea until this that you had slid over into LCSW stuff. Pretty awesome. Props to you for that!

This Week in Mormons : Episode #181 - Pioneer Day Sucks

That's the tough thing right there. We are dissuaded from seeking non-official sources of information, yet we also buy piles of non-official books at Deseret Book from standing apostles. It's strange. Or take, for example, the incredible David O. McKay book I am finishing up. It is decidedly pro-Church, but also very matter of fact about things that actually transpired only fifty years ago. We'd do better to introduce greater transparency into our curriculum, but that's just my opinion. Thanks for your comment. -Geoff

Oh heckz yes. Great read. Loved seeing someone visit a Mormon church with hardly any preconceived notions of how it would be. And your point scale would vary wildly week to week, depending on who speaks and what the topics are.

This Week in Mormons : Episode #165 - Granola, Exposed

Good discussion here John, it is something I have thought about quite a bit too. I agree with you that Geoff is weak and has arguments built for rodents and not intelligent men, but the scriptures use the phrase "all things denote there is a God" where we shouldn't try and use this as proof, but we should look around, at the incredible complexity in the system that we live and appreciate that all things suggest there is a God, because for me, as Vice President of my college math club, I have less faith we are a mathematical absurdity than we are created and cared for. The only other thing I'd say is miracles are real. Hopefully you have people in your life you can trust that are willing to share experiences with you, where you can trust in them while you wait for manifestations of your own, but they come man. And in my experience, they come in much more intimate / real scenarios than we are comfortable giving them credit for. Probably not helpful to your questions / thoughts, but having had these exact discussions multiple times over the years, thought I'd toss in my 2c -Al

This Week in Mormons : Episode #165 - Granola, Exposed

A simple visit to our "About" page would be all you need. ;) But you make good points, and I think that these are all very personal experiences and interpretations that will vary wildly and are quite subjective. Due respect, but equating the complexities of sustainable and intelligent life to a puddle isn't really the best analogy. A puddle happened because something made a hole and then it rained. Yippee. That doesn't take much more than simple impact and precipitation in some way. I like to think that humans are just a teensy bit more complex. Why can't amazing and miraculous be one and the same? I'll concede that modern marvels in technology are perhaps more amazing than they are miraculous, but I believe that the miracle of human ingenuity and complex thought are vital in creating such amazing things. It does depend on how you see things, which I hope I made clear in the episode. I gave a talk on Sunday where I spoke on a struggle I had with employment. In many ways, the result was unforeseeable and a miracle, but that is my own interpretation. I admit I haven't seen these crazy manifestations or seen terminal diseases leave people seemingly instantaneously, for example. But I have certainly experience what I regard as miracles. Tell me - and I asked this on the show - what are the types of miracles that are sought by people in your situation? What is it that defines "miracle" for you and would satisfy your search? I'm not asking to shut you down. I'm asking to understand. -Geoff
