Red Writing Hood is for fiction or non-fiction and links up Fridays. RemembeRED is for memoir and links up Tuesdays.

That's great you're finding inspiration from our prompts!

LOVED meeting you! I actually think they need a bootcamp in The OC! Not that I'm selfish or anything.. ;)

I agree! It would be great to have lots of traffic...but that is not our goal here. It's not to build your traffic. It's to build your writing skills. There are communities out there just for increasing traffic to your blog. We are not one of them.

I also find that I gush about some, but try to find SOMETHING to say about each. But if I simply don't have anything? I leave without commenting. It happens sometimes.

I think at times we would all love a million followers and a ton of comments, but it really doesn't mean much when the comments are vague.

Some posts I love and can't say enough about. Others, if I don't like them, I try to find something relevant to say. If I can't think of anything, I don't comment.

I agree Brandon. Sometimes there are posts that I simply don't know what to say, so I don't. But if I even remotely liked it, I try to point out specifically what I liked, so they know what their strengths are.

And yes, we were afraid this was being treated as less than what we are...hence my post today ;)

I have run into a couple of folks (this week's RWH) that I simply had nothing for. I had to resort to commas... such awesome writing, yet so sad that it I even left the comment. The occasional spelling and punctuation 'oops' are simply not THAT important. Got a great response from it and ended up emailing back and forth, but the rest of their comments said nothing of the piece beside that they loved it. One in particular had A LOT of comments and only two pieces of concrit (one being mine).

This very well may be being treated as a simple link up. Tough love time?

remember, even giving specific lines or words you liked is helpful. More helpful than just writing "great post!" if someone wrote that on your post, wouldn't you want to know what he/she found great about it?

I get what you are saying, but your FEELINGS about a piece are never incorrect. You don't have to leave ways to make it better if you don't see any. But being specific about what you LIKE is also helpful.

I sometimes give vague comments of how I liked a post, but if I don't like it, then usually I don't comment. I don't feel I am a strong or knowledgable enough writer to actually "critique" someone else. That is the reason I give sort of vague comments or no comment at all especially if it's from a writer that I know is way better than I am. I guess I sort of feel like "who am I to critique them". I don't know if this is why others do it or not but this could be a reason some people are giving vague comments.

Thank you for this, it's definitely helpful... I'm definitely guilty of leaving vague comments at times.... I always want to let the writer know that I read their piece and when I can't seem to find something useful to say (and that's about me and my insecurity about my feedback having "value" or being right... and not about the piece itself) I go with vague. But I get what you are saying in that it's not really helpful to the writer... I will definitely keep coming back to this post to help me give better feedback :)
