Actually there are very few "cures" for any cancer. Just very agressive treatments that sometimes work and sometimes doesn't. However, pancreatic cancer doesn't display any symtoms until the late stages. And from the look of Kim Jong Il, I'd say he has anywhere from 6 months to a year left. I've had 3 people in my family die from it. It's very agressive and kills very quickly. The weight loss would indicate he's well into the late stages.

If you look at it from a tactical stand point...she's going to get confirmed anyway...if the Republicans opposed her and lose what Latino votes they would have gotten...what purpose does that serve? It's a losing strategy...The midterms are right around the corner....It's would be a stupid move on their part.

There's a difference between a circuit court judge and a supreme court judge? Ya think? Of course, there is. And all she has to do is tell Obama what she wants him to hear...like I said, she has no prior rulings on the matter. At this point, she can say anything to become the first minority woman to sit on that court, and probably will...This is what you can bet, OM...he knows nothing solid to base his assumptions on about what rulings she would make on the subject....BTW...Sotomayor is not someone who is going to give him any majority on the court anyway...she's a liberal replacing a liberal...so his agenda is going to be interfered with as far as the SCOTUS is concerned. Perhaps that is what you don't understand...Obama already HAS that seat....

Do I think Obama would nominate someone who doesn't believe the same thing he does? I think he would if she had no prior rulings on an issue. She can say what she wants him to hear in that case, can't she? It's like O'Connor and Reagan. Things don't always turn out the way you would have them turn out. I would venture to guess Reagan had a gut feeling about O'Connor.....unfortunately in Reagan's case, and I'm sure he discussed issues with her too, people don't always do what you expect. But like I said...it's my opinion and no one will change it but me...As as your "gut feeling" goes....no one is right 100% of the time.

I didn't ask anyone to buy anything...It's my opinion...Yes the Catholic church forbids abortion. And since she's never made a ruling on an abortion issue one way or the other, I'll hold my judgement till I see her make one. What makes you think she's pro-abortion? Not all Conservatives are pro-life....and not all Liberals are pro-choice...

Old Marine...there's a difference...You're talking about men...her parents were Roman (notice the Roman in here) Catholics from Puerto Rico....Those two factors alone make her more apt to be pro life than the others you mentioned. Having spent the better part of my childhood in a Roman Catholic country....I know the difference between being Catholic here...and being Roman Catholic there. The two churches are nothing alike. Like I said...I'll take my chances with Sotomayor...

I don't know, call me crazy but I think Sotomayor may end up being a blessing in disguise. She might become the liberals worst nightmare as far as the abortion issue goes. She's Roman Catholic for one. The Roman Catholic church is very different outside this country....I'm guessing she was raised by a woman who grew up in that enviornment. I know some of that stuck with Sotomayor. She's more conservative in her view on crime. I have a sneaking suspicion she may be more conservative in her views on abortion. The balance of the court isn't going to change. It's a liberal, replacing a liberal. If there's any chance at all that she may tip the balance of the court on abortion...then she's worth any trouble she may be on the court.

Obama had his "mission accomplished" moment today when he announced that the "stimlus package" has done its job. He said it was designed so that local governments wouldn't have to lay off any teachers, firefighters and police. Are we on the same figgin planet? Perhaps he had a Kerry moment and it was a really bad joke. Either that or we have a case of very fuzzy math...like counting jobs you saved. If this is what's going to happen with all the money we need to stop the rest of the money from being spent. But now he wants to spend the money faster. Are you kidding me?

The biggest threat to our democracy right now is our own government. The Supreme Court of Honduras saw ex-President Zelaya trying to circumvent the law by trying to do away with term limits. Chavez just recently did the same thing and now he's President, my guess is, for life. He's a dictator. Get enough dictators in central America and we will have a REAL, sure enough, problem....I would much rather see the Supreme Court of any country watching out for the best interest of the people. Rather than one man and his ilk doing whatever they'd like. They acted in the best interest of their country. Kudos to them...
