Why do so many of you assume this is the cyclist's fault? With no facts to go on, it's kind of hard to think of many scenarios where the driver was faultless. You're riding you're bike down the road (as you are legally entitled to) and crossing an intersection. Somebody makes a right hand turn and hits you, giving you fatal injuries. The way this usually happens is that the truck driver just passed her or pulled along side her, and should have seen her. How can you pull alongside a bicycle and not see them? You make out like it is the most difficult in the world to see a bicycle, but when you're going in the same direction of traffic as them, and presumably not even that much faster than them (downtown), I find it hard to comprehend that you would not even entertain the possibility that it might have been mostly or entirely the driver's fault.

I've got an idea. Sit around all day typing in nasty, cold blooded insults about somebody who died. Oh wait, HarryJuku is already doing that. Anus.

Hey, you made the same stupid joke on a different thread about this young lady. I'd say that when you start making the same stupid, tasteless, joke on more than one thread about a person who has died in tragic circumstances, it's a sign that it's probably time for you to blow your own brains out.

That's just a bully mentality. "Cyclists have to work at integrating themselves". Individual motorists are constantly doing all sorts of stupid, dangerous, obscene, etc, acts, but nobody is saying that all motorists are bad. But a few perceived acts of rudeness from individual cyclists and suddenly all cyclists are lumped together as (choose your insult). It's the type of thinking at the root of all racism, sexism, classism, and all sorts of other isms and phobias.
I think motorists who are anti-cyclist feel that way because they realize their way of life (big, inefficient vehicles driving single individuals long distances for small errands) is slowly coming to an end, and they are digging in their heels, refusing to change.

And another thing: any of you who come out with the "but cyclists don't pay taxes for use of roads" complaint, you're totally misguided. Tag and license fees only cover a small percentage of the costs for municipal roads (and besides, most bicycle commuters also own cars, and thus pay the same fees anyway). Gas taxes are not used for municipal roads, either. Most of the money that pays for municipal roads comes from the general fund, which is payed into by everyone, including cyclists. Estimated costs of building & maintaining roads is roughly 6 cents per vehicle mile driven, so when a person chooses to commute on those roads by bicycle rather than car, they are in effect subsidizing motor vehicle users. So maybe you should thank them, rather than belittling them and dancing on their graves.

Hopefully when you die, people will make jokes about that too.

You are right. Also, don't forget that when an accident occurs in which a cyclist is hurt or killed, that is a reminder that bicyclists should be banned. But when cars smash into each other and carnage ensues, does that mean that cars should be banned? No way. That was just an unfortunate incident. Remember, all cyclists are out of control, jobless, finger-flipping, stop-sign running anarchist psycho hippies, and all drivers of "proper" vehicles are fine, upstanding, God-fearing Americans who are probably on their way to either work and/or church.

Anybody saying things along the lines of the cyclist should "get out of the way" when they are about to get hit by a semi is either intentionally being stupid, or has no practical sense of how to ride a bike, or drive a vehicle for that matter. If it was as simple as just "getting out of the way", there would be no accidents of any sort. Oh, hear comes a drunk driver, I'll just get out of the way. Oh, I'm about to get T-boned, I'll get out of the way. Of course you would get out the way if you knew someone was going to run into you and had time to react.

Yeah, anybody that disagrees with you and your status quo is clearly insane. This whole building a society based on burning massive amts of fossil fuels seems to be going awesome. By the way, "Dumbazz" is a super-cool insult. Did you make that up yourself? If so, give yourself a pat on the back.

Yeah, because before trucks and stuff, everybody lived in caves and trees
