You are quite right; Haitians, as individuals, can be very hard working people. But in Haiti nothing works well; it may be part of their culture, I'm not sure. I don't care how much money you dump into that cesspit; nothing good will come of it. Port-Au-Prince; the capital, rivers of burning trash being rooted through by pigs while floating toward the sea. Abandoned, non-functional vehicles on the side of the road being slowly taken apart for building materials. Non-functional power and water infrastructure. The only thing that made my stay there survivable was the American troop presence (thank you, again!). Saved my life at least once. I actually think that it's possible the earthquake will improve their country, though the loss of life is unfortunate. All Americans should be made to visit such a country in an effort to understand how lucky they are to live in America and what a gift their freedoms truly are. Perhaps then they would be more careful not to throw such freedoms away. At the time, he was referring to Northern Europeans but the concept is equally valid for any race.
