GazetteOnline.com : DJK: He likes to communicate, he likes to win, and he really likes Iowa

Anyone willing to ship one of these Iowa mags to a Navy guy out in Hawaii? Haha! I actually get to come back to the mainland for the Iowa vs ISU game this year. Hopefully the magazines wont be sold out; sounds like something I would really like to have. Great stuff as always, Mike!

GazetteOnline.com : It was louder, at least, but the same old song for Hawkeyes

I couldn't agree more, as I have been saying this for years. BUT, it's those geriatrics that donate the dollars so the university is compelled to give them better seats. Its really too bad becuase I have seen some FANTASTIC basketball environments where the students are darn near on top of the court.

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa pulling out a lot of stops to try to draw a basketball crowd next week

I think they need to move the student section to resemble some of the more active venues in MBB. Stuck in a corner, running to the top row isnt the way to go. Get them along the sides and close to the floor. At least those students that do show up will provide more than the 65+ year olds currently surrounding the first 15 rows at Carver! And yes, I know those older folks are the ones that donate and fork over the money for those seats...but there still is room to move the students closer to the floor!

GazetteOnline.com : SI says Hawkeyes No. 5 nationally going into 2010

While it is exciting to see the Hawks picked so high to start 2010, it always seems as though Iowa had better seasons when beginning the year ranked low, or not ranked at all. Here's to change! Also, should the Hawkeyes have a year like they did in 2009, it will be interesting to see if they can climb to 2, or 3 considering they won't spend 3-4 weeks clawing through the top 20, 15, and 10! From past years its seems that you need to start at the top to finish there! Guess we'll see!

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa adds FCS nonentity Tennessee Tech to its 2011 football schedule

I read on a CFB board that Boise gets (wants) $1 million+ for a game. And they wonder why no one will play them? Why should a team like Iowa dish out that kind of money (some poster said upwards of $2M) to play BSU? If Boise wants to build its reputation, perhaps they should make it a little easier on the BCS schools that would be willing to shcedule them. Fiesta win or not, Boise does not deserve that much money when other schools in their conference are playing the BCS Big Boys for 1/2 to 1/3 of that!

GazetteOnline.com : Poor outside shooting major concern for Hawkeyes

What you say is so true. I had a long conversation with my dad about this. I told him how badly I wanted to support the team, but it was really tough. For lack of a better word, it's painful to watch this team play; and I feel bad saying that. It would be different if the squad were full of 4- and 5-star talent and just wasn't producing; but these guys are playing their hearts out...and its just not enough. Unfortunately, at this level you're not going to get fans who dish out money for tickets just to make the kids feel good and feel supported. This isn't Jr High. People need to see results before they're willing to buy the tickets, drive into Carver and take a seat. It'd be nice if we could FF'wd a couple years to see these guys as Jr's and Sr's before making any judgement...but seeing other teams, including fellow Big Ten teams turn around with new coaches within a year or two is making Hawk fans patience grow thin!

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa's two foes for Fiesta Bowl berth: Penn State and Nebraska

I think everyone using the argument that Iowa has been chosen over fellow Big Ten teams with better records in the past has forgotten which teams Iowa was selected over, i.e. Northwestern last year. Iowa, in my mind, has usually been chosen over teams that cannot compare to Iowa's following, hence their selection to the better bowl. Now comes the dilema of two Big Ten teams with very similar fan and TV following; and THAT is why so many are bringing the 'Iowa beat PSU at PSU' argument to the table. One would think that now, with so many comparables, the Fiesta would have to look at the head-to-head. Just my opinion.

GazetteOnline.com : Sunday Hawkeyes Reading Room -- Iowa, Penn State wait; BCS Guru says Iowa will be No. 12 today

True, but taking those other things into consideration, i.e. fan follow, TV ratings, etc, N'Western couldnt come close to competing with Iowa. Heck, they cant even sell out a ~40,000 seat stadium. However, Iowa/PSU fan bases, etc are very similar in numbers in addition to Iowa winning the head-to-head.

...And I think these reps know that there is no way KF lets his team lay an egg the way they did in 2002. Granted they played a very, very good USC team; but I don't see this team not getting up for a BCS game should they get the chance.
What does either of them not playing in the NFL have to do with anything? They were still responsible for the success Iowa had in those years, not KOK. Do a quick search on "Fire KOK"; you might be surprised at how many articles are written: "KOK on the hot seat", "KOK criticized", etc, etc. And these are not flaming blogs by upset Iowa fans, these are press articles on ESPN, etc. KOK is not fine,; just look at the points average per game the past few years! Pretty sad. Anyway...I don't wanna sit and argue with a fellow Hawk fan. You have your opinion, I have mine. We both want the Hawks to succeed, so I'll leave it at that!
“We’re going to go over there and try to be aggressive and see if we can’t score points,” Ferentz said. “It’s going to be tough with just 10.” It took 10 weeks for this staff to figure this out? Hopefully Ohio State has some let down after crushing Penn State today. If not, the Hawks could be in for a long day. I trust the defense will be stout, but Iowa cannot afford to have them on the field for 40 of the 60 minutes. The offense has to move the ball, run the clock...and score some freakin' points!
