I also believe that targeting Hispanic immigrants brings a stereotype among those who are actually here legally. I always say that we make racism only a black and white issue, but it is truly more than just those two races. As a country we simply have to do a better job at handling these types of issues and our judgment.

This doesn't mean that those immigrants who travel to live in the States (legally/illegally) have to forget about their culture and fully assimilate to the American culture. Although illegal immigration is wrong, I believe that if these people aren't doing anything that will horribly worsen the American culture, why not help them become legal? I understand their wages will rise once legal, but the immigrants truly do help design our land. Those who are involved in crimes should be dealt with as such, but not racially profiled because of the legal problem. I say this because Hispanics are not the only immigrants who are coming to the States illegally. I believe that is one factor that truly bothers me. I believe that if we are going to have stronger border control and really take action on illegal immigration, all immigrants and not only Hispanics should be targeted.

I am also aware that the United States is known to be a "melting pot," but at the end of the day the primary language here is English. Sam said that Spanish is the second language that is spoken here, and I get that. But I honestly believe that immigrants should invest time in learning the English language. If we were to travel to a Hispanic country, some of the people may be able to understand English, but Spanish is their primary language so it is only respectful that we try learning and speaking the language of that country. Excuse me if that sounds close minded. It's only my opinion.

My perspective about illegal immigration hasn't really changed. I say this because last summer I had the opportunity to intern with a newsletter that focused on Hispanic issues only and immigration was extremely prevalent at that time. I really got to understand the thoughts and emotions of Hispanics and still had the opportunity to formulate my own opinion. In my opinion, immigrants should definitely come to the states legally. I believe that is the ethical thing to do. But I am also aware that many Hispanic countries experience violence and poverty that they want to escape from. Why wouldn't you run away? When you are thinking about fleeing a country, being legal may be the furthest thing from your mind.

World In Conversation : Did putting yourself in the shoes of the Middle Easterners change your views on the War in Iraq?- 11

The U.S. government is simply hard headed in my opinion. To put it in plain terms, they don't know how to mind their own business and are greedy. This country has to learn not to play near or with the fire because your deemed to get burnt. Of course, I do believe there are some bad people that exist in the middle east, but there are some here in the States as well. Neither are completely innocent, but th U.S. is fully wrong in my opinion as an American and in the shoes of a middle eastern. They have put us in a position where I believe that if we take our soldiers out of there, the middle easterns may be angry and retaliate once we have let our guards down. I don't know everything that goes on with politics or the government, and honestly no one does. Only the government. Media only shares with us what the government tells them and what the media wants to share with us. We are not given the opportunity to fully know what is going on with our country. There is no translucency. All I know is that for years our government hasn't been making very wise decisions.

When putting myself into the people of the middle east shoes, it only made me realize how much I disagree with the U.S. military being over there. This was not my first time thinking outside of my American body. I've honestly felt like the U.S. government has been being rude since I was able to catch on to what media has been sharing about this war. When the terrorist attacks of 9/11 happened I was very young and extremely uneducated about the government, yet alone what terrorist attacks were. So when we first went to middle east for war I originally thought it was because of what happened that day. As time has gone by, I've begin to realize that the government here is nothing but a big bully. We would be highly pissed if someone, anyone came here demanding that we change our ways, give them our resources and to not do anything about it.

World In Conversation : What was more enlightening, the information on your own sex or the opposite sex and why?- 119 Blog

The discussion on the “needy” penis was very open and fun, but hardly any of the information was enlightening. I have a very open group of male and female friends and an even more sexually open family so this conversation was nothing new. What I did find interesting was the information on how it was a male centered world. It was just great to hear someone else; especially older couples reiterate what still exists today. I really agreed with Sam’s wife when she said that men don’t understand the anatomy of a woman and what goes on with her body. It takes more to please us than it does to please a male simply because we are complex structures.

Women not experience a monthly cycle, menopause, hormones and the other things Sam’s wife said, but the vagina has good and bad bacteria which can cause complications outside of the normal discharge. This makes it quite difficult for a woman to be comfortable with to have sex at the moment. Men just don’t understand! Women are not crazy, it’s our bodies. When our bodies are acting a different way, it affects our mental which then ruins any chances of sex occurring.

Part3: I also think it’s great that the two made it an open class discussion because sex is deeply engraved in the American culture, but many people find ways to make it a forbidden subject to converse about. It’s one of those conversations that everyone knows about and is partly interested but no one steps up to be the first to initiate the conversation. In my opinion, it’s better to talk about it in the open rather than keep it all behind closed doors because you may be missing out on something. All in all, pretty good discussion!

Part2: It is very understandable that because of their hormones, it is difficult for men to control their sexual urges. For some women it is the same. I think the couple also did a great job of throwing it out there on how all women are different and how pleasing them can range from penetration to simply clitoral satisfaction. Sam and his wife did a great job of just adding some statistics into their presentation and “attempting” to make the atmosphere fun and open. Some people may have felt uncomfortable, but I found the fact that Sam and his wife were so affectionate and admired each other’s comments so much that it made the discussion fun. That’s exactly how any couple who is comfortable with sexuality and being sexual with one another would act.

World In Conversation : What do you think about interracial relationships?- 119 Blog

In my group, someone brought up the idea that maybe some people have problems with interracial couples because when the two have children it will began to erase their race. Everyone will be mixed and there won’t be any set groups. Is that necessarily a bad thing? I think that goes back to the being afraid of the unknown, because when I think about this it would actually eliminate racial groups. The only con I can think of at this moment is the chance of history being forgotten.

Sometimes I believe that when people think about interracial couples they automatically think about black and white people. As I have stated in a previous blog, society has painted the world black and white and exclude all other races. As a black woman, I am fine with seeing a black man with a white woman, an Asian woman, or a Hispanic woman. Love is love and you should be with whoever you find that love. To be honest, I would take a double look if I saw an Asian man and a Hispanic woman in a relationship simply because it’s not something that I see on a regular basis, but I would be excited because those two didn’t allow their racial differences to take a toll on their love. It is easy as people to allow our family and friends and the stares we would get from other people in our racial group to have an effect on our choosing of someone to date, but we have to block it out. It’s easier said than done, but I think it can be done.

In my discussion group we talk about interracial couples ALL the time and it is great to hear everyone’s thoughts and opinions on the topic. I have actually never been in an interracial relationship. It’s not because I am uncomfortable with it or that my family and friends are uncomfortable with it, it’s simply because I have preference for dark skin men. I am attracted to all races though. I believe that if you’re an attractive person whether you’re Asian, Indian, black or white, there is nothing wrong with dating you. It just depends on if we are both interested in one another and work well in a relationship. I have never had the opportunity to date outside my race because since my father thought I was old enough to date, I have been in a relationship with the same person. I honestly believe that if I were single, I would definitely date people who are in my racial group simply because that is whom I would feel the most comfortable with, but I wouldn’t be close minded to dating outside my race. It would just come down to me stepping out of my comfort zone and finding someone who is interested in me.

World In Conversation : What is your opinion of the black/white dolls video?- 119 Blog

It's even worse when parents unconsciously make children worry about their appearanc because of what their definition of beauty is. For example, some women put perms/relaxers in their daughters hairs at an early age because they feel their hair is too thick, nappy or kinky. You'll here them say "I don't know what to do with your hair." That child is already thinking something is wrong with their appearance. I could go on all day about why the children in this video chose the white doll over the black doll. The finger can be pointed at the media, history, parenting, whites or blacks themselves. Either way, society will have to make a change. It purely disgusts me that a little girl hesitates to pick up the doll that looks more like her because she has informed people that the doll is ugly. Therefore she believes she is ugly. No child, black, white, Asian, or Hispanic should be in that position.

When watching black/white doll video I was very disturbed. I wasn't so much disturbed at what doll the children in the video chose as being a "nicer" doll, but I was disturbed why they chose the doll. I began to think what could make these children believe that a black doll is lesser than a white doll. Besides the normal answer anyone would give, "it's because of history," why do black children, mainly little girls believe they are less attractive because of their dark skin. More specifically and according to the video, why are black dolls less attractive? Many people would say good parenting would help put a hault to this madness but I disagree. I believe that as parents, we can only do but so much in our homes because once our children walk out the door they are open to so much more. Shielding our children or simply telling them "you're beautiful no matter your skin color" may not always work when there are television shows, movies or individuals out there making your little girl feel different because she's the darkest of the group.

World In Conversation : Scholarships for white men

Part 3: In my opinion, I don’t understand why we as a society continue to make race an issue. We can avoid some of these situations so easily but we take the difficult route instead. People, organizations, companies, etc. should create scholarships for all people in need and whoever is eligible should receive the money. Create scholarships for the different majors that students are in or something that doesn’t continue to bring race into the picture. I honestly believe diversity among the scholarship recipients wouldn’t be an issue because any and everyone can apply and the organization would be simply choosing the winners based off of all the other information provided rather than color. I think that makes perfect sense. If the organization is truthfully choosing winners based off of their financial need and academic success, they will be unable to group upon race. It would be simple general requirements.

World In Conversation : Scholarships for white men

Part 2: The guy was right when he said other ethnic groups are allowed to create scholarships simply for their groups, why not them? I just don’t agree with his ignorance to the posed question why would people feel uncomfortable with the scholarship being only for white males? I also disagree with the scholarship supplying funds only to white men and not white females as well. So I actually take my comment earlier about being offended back because this offends me. Although I cannot clearly see if there is any racism behind this project, (as time goes on I will be able to further examine) I do see that it oppresses women. The scholarship singles out white males and leaves out white women; therefore it gives men an upper hand to education and better opportunities as far as careers. If the scholarship is going to be official, it should include all whites just as any other scholarship race based would. To my knowledge I haven’t seen a scholarship directed to only African American males or females. They have included both genders.

Part 1: To be honest, I don’t find there being a scholarship for white males offensive, racist or a bad idea and I am in fact black. Yes; the idea has and will generate a lot of controversy , but if we sit back and think reasonably, it is not necessarily wrong for white people to come together and fund money for the less fortunate whites. It is true, because of history we are apprehensive and uncomfortable with seeing or hearing anything that is for whites only or for white men, but does two wrongs make a right? I ask that question because although the majority of white families are known to be wealthy, there are some who struggle. Is it right for us (other racial groups) to oppress struggling white people simply because of history? Honestly, I don’t think so. No matter how angry history or present day racism makes me, fair is fair. We can’t continue to judge based on the majority picture. All whites are not rich and all whites aren’t racist.

Part 3:Why do we think of people in other countries are so different from us? I could never give an answer that would work for the entire world. This is truly the expression of my thoughts and my understandings. I believe that we have become so comfortable with the way the world works for us and that is being separated. We have allowed society to construct every bit of our lives to the point that when something that may be completely normal to one person is alien-like to another. We don’t like things that are different or out of our comfort zones.

Part 2:Therefore we believe that we have nothing in common with them. We look at appearance, the different foods, the ways they dress, speak and more and run away from it because it is unfamiliar. I think that is exactly what we do. We run away from things that are unfamiliar to us, which in turn is building a wall to block out the unknown. Although we live in the same country, we are all different and belong to different cultures just like those who live in other countries. We may give people that live outside of the U.S. a difficult time, but we give each other a hard one as well. We frown upon those who aren’t like us. We’re disgusted at what different cultures find as normal that we don’t. As a society we are very close-minded. We pretend that we don’t have a problem with other cultures because it makes us all who we are, but deep down we don’t respect the other cultures. Respect, in my opinion, would be to not frown at the skin complexion or fashion of another country, but to understand that it is simply the country’s culture.
