I used to visit Portland, OR a lot back in the '80's, and as a Canadian, I often brought a lot of US coins with me that I had found in my change in Canada. The exchange rate in those days was pretty high - somewhere around 10% or more.

I don't remember the exact bank, but I found one that had a change sorting machine. All you did was dump the coins into the hopper and it would sort and count your coins and drop them into large cash bags. They would then pay you in bills for what you had. No hand counting, no time wasting. Great service and free.

Some 30 years later, I still can not find a bank in Canada that has a coin counter.

Times are indeed tough on people now days. And I do understand the reasons for why stores would want to limit counting coins at the register. For large grocery chains like Fred Myer and Safeway, etc. Is it really too much to ask them to buy a coin counter that will service their loyal customers without additional charge?

Electronic navigation tools such as this, and GPS are great items to have on board.

However, anyone stupid enough to leave their paper charts behind is just asking for problems. Electronics can fail for many reasons: dead batteries, being dropped, bad components, etc.

Here in Canada we use GPS on board boats all the time, but we must, by law have the paper charts for the area we are operating in.

I quite agree.

If a party can not raise its own funds to fight an election, then maybe they are not worth electing.

The Liberals and the NDP have for too long been firmly attached to the public teat. Time to pry them loose. Same goes for the Bloc, who have no need to raise their own money at all because they only rent a bus and travel within Quebec.

Ther is a reason why Conservatives are good at raising funds - their message resonates with the public.

OR, the people at Elections Canada are politically biased.

Why have they allowed the Liberal Leadership candidates to keep running when they have not paid back their loans from the last leadership race - the one that ELECTED Dion, not the one that APPOINTED Iggy?

No, they are biased against the Conservatives. Simple as that.

If so, why have Elections Canada not gone after the Liberals and the NDP for doing the very same thing?

Why, when EC raided the Conservative Party HQ, was there a Liberal camera crew there waiting for them? Who tipped them off, if not people from Elections Canada?

No, this whole thing reeks of politcal bias from Liberal sympathizers at Elections Canada.

Time to get rid of them and put in some non-partisan EC workers.

Here is my take on the in & out:

Take the total of the Local campaign budgets, add them to the National campaign budget, spend up to that amout.

Elections Canada has no business getting involved in how the money is spent. That is up to the campaign directors to figure out.

As a photographer and web designer who has done work for politicians, I would love it if they would all hire photographers to do custom shoots for their websites and other promotional work.

However, the reality is that it is expensive. That's why stock photos exist. The same image can be sold many times for a reduced rate, and everybody wins. Photographer gets paid, customer saves money.

Do we really want to make politicians spend more money to get and keep their jobs?
