KCPQ-TV : Tweets prompt hate-crime investigation at Issaquah High School

"A Seattle police report says the racist messages were posted to social media or shared via text message. Now the department is investigating the messages as a possible felony." Just let that sink in. A FELONY for politically-incorrect speech.

KCPQ-TV : Grocery workers prepare for strike

“I’d go straight into the grocery store,” Kevin, a Safeway shopper on Capitol Hill, said. “It doesn’t concern me at all. I gotta eat.” Agreed, and any thuggish attempts at intimidation or ANY attempt to block my legal entrance into the store or harass me in ANY way in the parking lot will be met with the sort of response that will make any belligerent Union thug wish that he/she had stayed at home. My real concern is not for myself but for elderly and timid folks who may be frightened away by loudmouthed, tough-talking Union thugs and perhaps prevented from getting essential food items or medications from the pharmacies in these stores. There are a LOT of people who live in areas where "going to a different store" is simply not possible due to their lack of mobility and the distances involved....or perhaps they simply aren't aware of any other options than the local store they've been going to for 20+ years. Any injuries or deaths due to a person being frightened to enter one of these stores will be blood upon the Union's hands, but of course they will never admit any responsibility or show any slight concern.

KCPQ-TV : Issaquah group wants to bring plastic bag ban to voters

"Why is banning the first thing liberals think of when trying to solve a problem?" Because Totalitarianism is the primary foundation of the Left. Government is the Left's religion, and because Government can't appeal to the better aspects human nature and morality as real religions do, everything is based upon Government control over other peoples' lives. A physical object is used improperly by a tiny minority of people even though it benefits hundreds of millions who use it properly? Ban it. People of different cultures and sexual orientations not getting along? Place them into groups & classes, pit them against each other, and legislatively favor those groups who embrace a Leviathan Government steamrolling over their opponents. Leftism is perfect for those who are on the losing side of an argument and don't have the integrity to admit it when they're wrong and change their opinions. For the thin-skinned and weak of mind, it's far easier to use the cudgel of Government to force things to happen rather than to make a solid, thoughtful and logical case for it. The only thing that needs to be done for so many is to shrilly project an emotional outrage, regardless of the facts involved, and Government will rush to their rescue. Liberalism is truly the religion of the infantile....just scream, stamp your feet and demand that Big Brother come to your rescue.

KCPQ-TV : Do you feel safe in downtown Seattle?

As long as the City continues in its current trajectory of being soft on crime, being aggressively anti-law-enforcement, embracing and encouraging illegal immigrants (Seattle is a "sanctuary city") and belligerently attacking law-abiding gun owners with obviously-unconstitutional firearms restrictions this trend of people feeling unsafe will only continue. These policies are a direct reflection of the ideologies of the dominant Leftist voting public here and will doom Seattle to follow Detroit down the path to ruin, albeit at a slower pace due to Unions not being quite as powerful here as they are on the East coast. Voting matters, and if there is an interest in making the City safer it starts with the public rejecting the failed liberal ideas and embracing the ideas that have been shown over time to actually work. Since this is not likely to happen, the City will continue to hemorrhage businesses and intelligent high-earners, and the tax base will suffer accordingly. One of the primary roles of Government is in providing public safety, and Seattle's dominant voting demographic eagerly votes against politicians who embrace this basic concept.

Michael, in this case the perpetrators demonstrated a willful, immediate and dire threat to the lives and safety of others as a result of their assaulting the homeowner and tying him up. Lacking any other aspects to the case, the homeowner would ordinarily be entirely justified in using lethal force if he were simply a decent, law-abiding homeowner minding his own business, as he is protecting others from immediate harm by stopping these thugs and the threat that they represent to the community. That being said, this does indeed sound like a drug deal gone bad as Skip mentioned and there is probably a LOT that is being left out of this story. The homeowner may not have much of a leg to stand on as a result in his own criminal involvement with this matter.

Hello Erin, One line in your story here that you may wish to revisit is this one: "The Veyron goes 0-60 MPS in 2.5 seconds. " The Bugatti is certainly a fast car, but I'll wager that even its makers will not lay claim to it being able to travel at sixty miles per second. I'm guessing that MPH (miles per hour) is what you're looking for. If my assumptions are wrong and the article is correct as it stands, then I'm hoping that NASA and Boeing might consider doing some networking with the Bugatti folks so that we might be able to get to Mars just a tad quicker. Have a nice day :-)

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Sister of man who killed Lakewood officers out of prison | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather,

Given the frequent reports of groups of thugs interfering with police and EMS operations and investigations when the subject of the investigation involves one of their own or perhaps only because it occurs in "their 'hood" , I'm guessing that at first there'll be a celebration for her, much like the footage we saw from certain areas of the Middle East (and the USA) immediately after 9/11. Naturally, there will be no news coverage of this and any videos that make it online will be quickly taken down by politically-correct site operators and those terrified of being called 'racist'. After the initial crack party, LaTanya will find protection and adoration from the same 'community' that has no problem with unleashing the Black Panthers on a "white hispanic" man who was legally protecting himself from a thug who was sitting on him and beating his head on the pavement. Regardless of the trial's outcome, Mr. Zimmerman and anyone who looks like him will have to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder whereas LaTanya will become a respected icon. If certain 'community leaders' truly cared about their constituency, this is what should concern them most, but sadly it doesn't, and so the cycle will continue until there are no decent, upstanding people left in their communities at all.

"It's the role of the city government to provide community benefits we can all enjoy with our families," Robinson, the arena booster, said. No, it's the role of a (sane) city government to GET OUT OF THE WAY and actively streamline the process for private industry to build and thrive whenever legally possible. As a lifelong Seattle resident, I'm not surprised in the least that such a basic concept would be so completely misunderstood. That being said, I wish the Ferris Wheel owners good luck with their venture and hope that their considerable investment is returned many times over.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : City leaders mulling tougher gun laws | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking N

cougbrian, just as hoplophobic Leftists in the USA love to refer to "gun crime" , thereby shifting the focus away from the criminal and toward an inanimate object, so also Leftists in the UK attack "knife crime" in similar ways that the antigun nutjobs do with guns here in the USA. Knives are regulated more and more, and frequently you'll need to be able to JUSTIFY your ownership of a large chef's knife, such as it being part of your occupation as a Chef. In fact, any large object that could conceivably be used as a weapon is likely to arouse suspicion from the Police Across The Pond. I have a friend whose Dad was stopped and questioned because he was carrying a big wrench from his car, which was parked directly in front of his house, into his home. The police stopped him in front of his house and he had to explain that he had just been working on his car, and was carrying the wrench inside where he would be locking it up for safekeeping. After this explanation as well as a visual inspection of the vehicle to verify that work requiring the wrench had indeed been done on it , they let him proceed into his house but warned him to lock up the wrench right away. For more on the insanity of "knife crime" legislation in the UK, do a search for "Knife Crime" within any UK newspaper. Here's an example from the UK Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/search.html?sel=s... And while "knife crime" makes it difficult for homemakers to get larger cutlery tools, people in the UK are constantly complaining that violent criminals are given light sentences and let out of jail early, or never serve time at all. Reading the UK press can be quite illuminating, and it can show us what lies at the end of the Socialist path. It's a vision to the future in many ways for the USA.

Thank you keeper for reminding us that quality firearms education used to be a regular part of college as well as High School. It not only taught safe gun etiquette but exposed people to an important and valuable part of life that they might not have had an opportunity to interact with before, particularly for those who live in cities. Without a reasoned, properly-nuanced exposure to firearms, so many people now have become hoplophobic and as such are easy prey and willing footsoldiers for those pushing an anti-freedom, pro-massive Government political agenda. Indeed, an early recognition of the primacy of The Individual as opposed to reliance on The Collective is part of the 'glue' that holds any free society together.....and that's why Collectivists attack private firearms ownership and education with such passionate zeal.

Thank you so much Woodswalker for your gracious and exceptionally complimentary reply....it's sincerely appreciated :-) I and I'm sure many here find it sadly predictable and unsurprising that Seattle "leaders" are only considering all of the traditional, Left-wing, ideologically-driven "fixes" to what they love to call "gun violence"...."fixes" which have failed every time they've been implemented throughout history. It speaks to the very small size of the 'box' that the Left insists upon working inside of as well as the Left's Totalitarian underpinnings which ultimately guide their every move. Thank you again for your kind comments and best wishes to you and yours :-)

Here are some "gun laws" that I would like to suggest: 1. Give huge, breathtaking tax, zoning and permit incentives to established, reputable organizations who might want to build stylish, full-service public indoor shooting ranges within the Seattle city limits, so that residents won't have to drive so far in order to practice with their legal weapons. A person who doesn't have a car and wants to maintain or increase his/her shooting skills is looking at a LONG bus ride to the ranges nearest Seattle at the moment and this places those without vehicles at a profound disadvantage. Decades of anti-gun zoning and open ideologically-based hostility from Seattle's "leaders" has placed all Seattle residents at risk of losing their skills or being unable to conveniently maintain them in a time and cost-effective way. 2. Encourage the University of Washington, through liability and tax incentives, to reactivate its Rifle and Pistol Club. They used to have one, you know. Once the UW takes the lead, other area colleges will follow, and properly-trained young people will be a force for law, order and safety in Seattle. 3. Eliminate any City taxes on firearms sales and gun shop property taxes to encourage law-abiding people to be gun owners, and to encourage legal commerce pertaining to legal gun ownership. 4. Have the Mayor's Office and the City Council issue a joint resolution proclaiming Seattle as being a city that values lawful citizen gun ownership, supports a citizen's right to bear arms and to use firearms for the purpose of legal defense against criminal violence. 5. Encourage the NRA to bring their Eddie Eagle children's firearms safety program to all Seattle schools. 6. Include in Police Officer training the stressed concept that legal, law-abiding gun owners are not a threat and should be treated with courtesy; not as criminals just because they are legally carrying a weapon during a routine traffic stop. 7. Dissolve any City employee positions dedicated to furthering Seattle's status as a "sanctuary city" for illegal aliens and use that money to establish a City Office Of Womens' Defense Outreach where Ladies are specifically encouraged to learn about the innumerable benefits of legally arming themselves and carrying a legal firearm for personal self defense. Those are just a few items that are glaringly obvious, undoubtedly there are many more along the same lines that would benefit Seattle tremendously. My expectation is that these simple, obvious, effective and time-proven steps will be unilaterally rejected by Seattle's "leaders" as well as the Left, who seem to want to make Seattle as safe as possible for violent criminals to prey upon decent, law-abiding people. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. The Second Amendment is not about duck hunting.

This is where the ACLU's true 'heart' is. Their cheerleaders, apologists and enablers will shrilly cite the "one out of a thousand" case in which the ACLU sides with a person, concept or organization that is beneficial to Western or American culture or society and hold that up as an example of the ACLU being "entirely unbiased and even-handed" but the truth is that the VAST majority of their efforts are spent championing causes which are ultimately harmful to America and to all of Western culture. "Mainstreaming" and legitimizing sex criminals for free interaction with polite society - including its most vulnerable members - will be another feather in the cap that ACLU lawyers will proudly wear at trendy cocktail parties as evidence of how very enlightened and non-judgmental they are. The weak-minded will nod appreciatively over the lawyers' tales of how they overcame bigotry and evil to bring this misunderstood, marginalized minority group into the public square where they rightfully belong. Meanwhile, the normal, sane and decent majority is baffled as to why the world is continually becoming more gritty, corrupt and dangerous; having no time to follow the minutia of legislative processes because they are too busy with normal lives, families and honest work. "Don't it all just seem to go, you don't know what you've got 'til its gone....." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWwUJH70ubM

Of course, getting rid of just a bit of the middle-management bureaucratic deadwood is never an option. It always has to be cutting Police Officers, Firefighters or Paramedics, or making the parks go brown. It has to be something visual or something that causes an immediate, negative impact on the quality of life. How else are they going to be able to frighten the public into voting for more taxes? Making Government smaller and more efficient doesn't create the same sort of scary headlines that "Seattle's parks are going brown because they don't have enough money!!" does. And making Government smaller certainly won't please the Unions.

The story makes the point several times that the siren is "from the 1940's" and thereby suggests that this is obsolete technology, but community emergency sirens are still being manufactured and are in use in many communities throughout the world. To infer that this is some sort of outdated, anachronistic technology is simply wrong. It's a time-tested, cost-effective solution that is essential until the time comes when technology has a reliable replacement for it. At this time, such a replacement simply does not exist for many communities that have geographic or tech infrastructure impediments. If this person knows of a perfect, absolutely reliable replacement for such sirens then I hope that she'll stop keeping it a secret and will let the world know about her amazing discovery....she'll have fire chiefs flying in from all over the world and banging on her door, eager to speak with her. Until that time, making a little laminated card advising guests of this and placing it in her guest rooms might prevent a few of her more hysterical, breathtakingly-uninformed guests from scurrying away in the middle of the night.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Seattle gives DOJ police reform counterproposal | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports,

"...or call in specialized units to reduce the need for force, and only use force proportional to resistance used by suspects" This as well as the other recommendations sound almost identical to rules widely employed in the UK. Across the Pond, this has translated into making community policing so expensive that they've gone to hiring minimally-trained people with reduced authority to handle many or even most lower-tier offenses. It has increased bureaucracy exponentially and has decreased the public's satisfaction with law enforcement. And that doesn't even get into the cost, which is needlessly-breathtaking. Problem is, once these massive bureaucracies are put in place, they're almost impossible to get rid of when it's determined that they're not cost-effective.
