FinerMinds : Overachievement By John Eliot, Ph.D. - Day 12 Of The PhilosphersNotes Challenge

“I insist you throw caution at the wind, ignore the pleas of parents, coaches, spouses, and bosses to be ‘realistic.’ Realistic people do not accomplish extraordinary things because the odds of success stymie them." I was very amused by the synchronicity of the opening quote, and my comment yesterday! - Over the years when I've voiced my desire to want to do more, be more, and have more. There were those that would ALWAYS be quick to cry, 'Be realistic! What's wrong with breaking your back for minimum wage and losing you enthusiasm for life - we ALL have to do it.' (that might be a slightly embellished version!) And this, THIS is what I WANTED to say in response; “It is the natural and inherent impulse of life to seek to live more; it is the nature of intelligence to enlarge itself, and of consciousness to seek to extend its boundaries and find fuller expression.” =))

FinerMinds : The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People By Stephen R. Covey — DAY 2 Of The PhilosophersNotes Chal

Aha, brilliant! Repetition makes the master. And I do really think we are all slaves to our rituals, but too often the wrong ones. Thanks Brian! I'm definitely going to go and design some NEW rituals too!

Fantastic! I really took a lot out of this note, but identifying your roles and creating goals for each, really made a lot of sense to me. So that's the one thing I'm going to do today - right now in fact!!

FinerMinds : The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz — DAY 1 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

I loved the idea of 'kaizen' continual improvement using baby steps. I've always been a bit of a 'now, now, now!' person when it comes to where I want to be, which really hasn't helped me achieve anything. So I'm going to 'practice, practice, practice' 1) - to not say yes to everything, so that I can BE impeccable with my word and not wear myself out with other peoples stuff. 2) - to not take anything personally - actually I don't, but I'll pass that wisdom on to somebody close to me who does! 3) - to continue to not make assumptions. 4) - to always do my best. This is perhaps the most difficult for me because as a silly perfectionist, I find it difficult to realise that something is my best. But I totally agree that 'repetition is the master' - my bad habits a great testament to repetition!! - so I'm going to start putting repetition to better use - starting today!
