MetsBlog.com : Note: 100 Men Left on Base

Right now it seems like Delgado and everyone else. Delgado is hitting when it matters but the other hitters need to follow. Hitting the ball the other way, hitting back up the middle, etc. Tough luck with that Delgado base hit up the middle because it was ticketed into the outfield but the pitcher got lucky and sometimes that's what a ballclub needs to win a game. A ton of bad things went against the Mets, especially when they start the runners, they already got doubled off twice once yesterday and another time during the weekend. Hopefully situational hitting improves though, the Mets hitter need to at least make productive outs if they are going to struggle.

You can't panic early on in the season but it would be nice if David Wright could get a base hit with a runner on base instead of whiffing at a fastball right down the middle. Having Delgado off to a good start was a key but having Wright be consistant with his hitting approach is another. I feel too many Mets hitters want to take pitches instead of hit when it matters. Maybe it's a confidence issue or players pressing but it's honestly hard to tell what it is early on in the season. The good news is that the Mets are in 2nd place in the division but I'm not going to say "Well no one is running away with the division." We fell in love with that saying too many times last season and I feel at times the Mets players wanted to believe that as well. They need to start hitting with R.I.S.P. or they are going to be hard pressed to score runs and give their starting pitchers room to work.

MetsBlog.com : News: Figueroa DFA'd

Mets should of been happy with the way Figueroa pitched. Anytime you can get 6 innings of 3 run ball from a 5th starter type reliever I think he deserves to stay. Of course since the offense came up short it doesn't look as good as if they scored say 4 or 5 runs. Maybe Mets catch some magic and have Fossum pitch well for them.

MetsBlog.com : Post-Game: Brewers 4 Mets 2

I'm somewhat alarmed by the offense, they seem to hit well when no one is on base or not in scoring position, this is the same type of offense that cost Willie his job. I'm pretty sure Manuel is safe but something is certainly missing. This offense will heat up as the weather does but it would be nice to see more productive outs being made even if they don't get hits. Santos the backup catcher has done a good job so far, provided a semi-spark to the offense. Once the Mets can get Wright back on track, the Mets offense will look much more better.

MetsBlog.com : Note: Castillo's Sac-Bunt

I just don't feel confident when Castillo is up to bat, I feel it's going to be an automatic out from the left side. If Luis would only give up hitting left handed he could probably just focus on being consistant with the bat and don't feel the need to hope for a basehit and then he'd feel confident in himself again. I don't believe in booing a guy that's been struggling.

MetsBlog.com : Quote: Manuel on Perez's Poor Outing

I'm not going to be that concerned yet, I need to see more and if he improves. Ollie always does this though, he will throw a few stinkers in a row and when you are ready to ring his neck, Perez throws 8 innings of 1 run ball. Thank goodness the Mets got Santana or Citifield might not be standing with all the inconsistency Ollie brings. lol

The crowd was so electric and it wasn't even a regular season game, there was certainly a different feel with Putz and K-Rod closing the game out.
