We use to have this feature years ago on some of the sites. I don't know why we moved away from it. It may have been due to the repetitiveness of the icon(s) on the pages.

Anyone else have a preference for these types of headline icons?

I'm not a fan of the "News Bar". It tends to break up the page and push down the content when you have 2 or 3. I prefer the concept OC Register has employed with their Don't Miss:" widget under the nav bar. It's texted based and not obtrusive to the reader.

We tried to do this through the reporter profile pages but got resistance from most of the properties. I like the idea myself.
