if it were a bear instead of a kid with a hammer, they wouldn't have shot it. I would say a bear is more dangerous than a kid with a hammer. Still wouldn't want to be a cop, tough job, tough and fast decisions with serious consequences. If I screw up in my job, I just restore the backup. Cops don't have that option.

Why would anyone want to own a great dane or a pit bull? The entire time they own the dog they will have to deal with people not liking or trusting their dog. Dogs are supposed to be fun, get a golden or a friendly mutt.

Daily Camera.com: : Coroner investigating death of Ironman Boulder competitor 3 days after race - Boulder Daily Camera

His death may have nothing to do with the race, but it is important to work up to these distances. Too many people attempt an Ironman distance triathlon way too soon. IMO, it should take ~3 years to get from "OK" fitness to Ironman fitness. You should have completed a half-Ironman distance, and a full marathon before considering the Ironman. Ironman takes a toll on even the healthiest athletes and it can cause injury if you haven't built up the fitness. There's no hurry. Every activity has it's risks, if this was race related, it is a rare event. RIP

Probably thrown in the lake by a fisherman, the fish in that lake are jerks. They jump out of the water right in front of your line to taunt you, there are times I would have tossed a grenade at them.

Daily Camera.com: : Delays spark backlash in Boulder - Boulder Daily Camera

What are the criteria to determine if this test is a success or failure? If it is not working, they should reverse the changes ASAP to keep the peace. This shows how important it is to include bike routes in all new roadways so the next generation doesn't have to deal with a mess like this. Looking at a Boulder Map, Folsom does seem like the best North South bike route through the middle of town. Maybe there are less drastic measures to improve that route. I have never had a problem cycling on Folsom, except once, when I got hit by a driver who didn't see me who was turning into 7-eleven, but I don't know if the changes made would have prevented that collision. I consider the Folsom bike route intermediate in terms of required bike riding experience, I wouldn't want to see a young kid or elderly cyclist on that road in some areas. Maybe the boulder bike route map needs to be redrawn in terms of riding experience levels, like Greens and Blues. Most new cyclists only feel comfortable on easy Greens and I'm sure there are major gaps in the system for easy ride routes. If the goal is to get people out of their cars and onto bikes, then the easy routes will be key. I wouldn't mind adding 5 minutes to my ride to stay on a safe path. IMO, the recreational and exercise cyclists are probably already getting Boulder around OK.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder to postpone \'right-sizing\' bike-lane project on Iris Avenue, 63rd Street - Boulder Daily C

IMO, The most important part of a path system is complete routes. If I can bike 99% of the way to a location, but there is a small stretch without a bike lane or a busy road to cross then I'll take my car. People need to get completely from point A to point B without sketchy car interactions. A strategically selected over/underpass or small stretch of new bike path makes the other 99% of the path system all the more valuable.

you guys are hilarious. if a car passed you on your left then turned right directly into you on a GREEN light, you might think differently. If I hadn't locked my brakes she would have hit me with her front passenger door. I was looking at her, but she was oblivious.

I was hit on my bike on Folsom. The car to my left did not see me and turned left on a green light right in to me. I locked my brakes but couldn't avoid hitting her back tire and going down hard. She probably didn't even know she hit me and kept on going. Not sure if this will help that specific intersection, but that sucked, lots of road rash for me and my bike.

Daily Camera.com: : To make room for bikes, Boulder to test fewer lanes - Boulder Daily Camera

If there's a bike lane, I'm happy, no need for 7 feet wide. Often what prevents me from biking vs car is a small section of the route without a bike lane. But if there's a 4 foot lane, I'm good. Boulder could concentrate on education (like free bike route maps) and on good centralized bike parking to make a larger impact.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder co-op celebrates 30 years - Boulder Daily Camera

I like the idea of super-high density units to be used for low income housing, basically dormitories. If there was a critical mass of occupants, they could take advantage of economies of scale to drive down the cost of living. If you had 20+ occupants, you could hire a cook to provide most meals for under $5 per meal. Sharing expenses like wifi, automobiles and utilities would bring the monthly cost per occupant way down. The main challenge would be to get the right group of people. There would have to be way to get the bad ones who slip through the filter out. One bad apple could ruin the whole micro-community. Other challenges would be privacy, visitors and security. People need some alone time and need to feel safe. This model could work well to get some homeless people off the street.
