<description>Which begs the question, how big would Apple need to get before they were threatened with an anti-trust action&amp;hellip; regardless of the fact that their platforms and software see healthy market competition. Sometimes law makers get antsy at the sight of that much capital (and power) tied up in one place. </description>

<description>If Steve Ballmer remains at the helm Microsoft&amp;#039;s business model won&amp;#039;t be able to change. He has shown, often enough that we can call it a trend, that he views the world from a &amp;quot;it worked in the past it should work now&amp;quot; perspective. This is great for maintaining a glide path but doesn&amp;#039;t allow businesses to adjust course. We&amp;#039;ve learned in the past that adjusting course can come in handy (e.g. - The Titanic).  What&amp;#039;s funny is that we see this same behavior in Mike Lazaridis. </description>

<description>Actually I wonder if the small firms making small, inexpensive apps will be around long enough to support the ongoing development of the apps. With many small, inexpensive apps in competition it&amp;#039;s hard to divine which the market will favor. I love cheap plentiful apps but I wonder if they&amp;#039;ll be available in 5-10 years. Are we now looking at a future of constant app turnover with little compatibility from generation of apps to the next?  If we&amp;#039;re looking at a multiplatform era then open file standards will be imperative if our data is to be portable between platforms and between competing apps. </description>

<description>I remember an advertising class that I took once that hammered away on the point that it takes a long time for an advertising campaign to secure itself in the customer&amp;#039; minds. It argued that a corporate logo ought never be changed radically because it was a sign of trust that customers could grab onto.  How much more so with something so personal as one&amp;#039;s phone. </description>

<description>How many handset manufacturers are making a handset they were making in 2007? I&amp;#039;m not an android user but it seems to me from the outside of that market that the turnover of new handset models is pretty furious. If I wanted to switch to a new version of the same HTC android handset that I found met my needs&amp;hellip; could I?  Also, how easy would it be to sync up my old data with a new phone. This is easy with an iPhone and iTunes (and even easier now with iCloud and cordless syncing) but i don&amp;#039;t get the impression it&amp;#039;s quite so easy on any android device.  These considerations make each new purchase a decision point for every Android user. Not so much for every iPhone user. </description>

The reality is that very few people, if anyone, really could judge &amp;quot;What Jobs Would Do.&amp;quot;  I think maybe John Gruber is one. Can&amp;#039;t think of a second.  For that reason alone, developing a corporate self awareness and corporate memory is essential for Apple to survive until the next Walt Disney/Steve Jobs/Thomas Edison type mind comes along. </description>

<description>How many modern commercial technology platforms have ever existed? We might look as far back as the Ford Model T, NTSC based television, VHS videotape, command line operating systems, GUI operating systems. I can&amp;#039;t think of many else. Now we have touch based operating systems.  The point is, we have a very small statistical sample of modern commercial technology platforms to look at. It&amp;#039;s impossible to judge the outcome of this particular competition to any degree of statistical certainty based on the few historical anecdotes we&amp;#039;ve seen.  Anyone who says they can judge the future based on what we&amp;#039;ve seen is trying to sell you something. </description>
