Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Stand Up & Lead

Should our out of control government decide where the line falls between Individual Rights and the Common Good or should the people who understand these rights as given from God make that decision. It is my belief that for the sake of the “Common Good”, our government is taking away our God given Individual Rights. So, where and how do we stand up and draw this line? What do you think?

Our Individual Rights (IR) are from God. They are stated in our Constitution as “Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness”. Everyone has the right to life. So how do we justify extinguishing life at any time after conception? The basis of the arguments can be framed in the ideas of “Individual Rights (RI) vs Common Good (CG)”. If a new life is conceived with consent or without consent (rape, incest), then CG argues that we are justified to terminate the baby’s IR. If a new life can cause the death of the mother, then CG argues that we are justified to protect the mother’s IR over the baby’s IR. If a life is taken in defense of our home or country, then CG argues we are justified to protect our IR against the threat. If a life is taken as punishment for a crime, then CG argues we are justified in extinguishing a life in order to protect all of our IR. If a life is taken to relieve suffering, then CG argues we are justified because we are reducing the cost of health care. If life is taken due to old age, then CG argues we are justified by reducing the cost to support unproductive people.
