Atheist Revolution : Assertive Atheism in the Face of Christian Ignorance and Bigotry

Penn definitely did a good job in that part of the interview. I wish I could find the rest of that interview to see if he kept that up. Still, there is something to be said about remaining calm while the religious counterpoint loses their shit. Have you seen Amanda Knief's appearance on CNN over the weekend? By the end of it, the religious pastor had marbles in his mouth.
Atheist Revolution : What Atheism Could Have Been, Part II

I would like to see a group like Atheists For Social Justice who organize food banks, blood drives, charity walks, etc. Awhile ago, I started a group called, "Atheists For Autism Research." A bunch of us went to an Autism Walk and we got a lot of positive comments. I'm sure there were many Christians who we unhappy with our presence, but they didn't say anything. I was surprised that there were quite a few atheists working the event who did come over and asked where they could get a shirt like ours. Things like this would be a great activity for an atheist social justice group. I don't think Atheism + did any of that though.
Atheist Revolution : Atheism Before the Internet

I became an atheist at 13 and someone told me that I was one. I didn't really get interested in religion/atheism until college though. By then, the internet was just getting started and I found a great website called, "Why Christians Suck." It isn't around any more, but it was one of the first atheist websites on the internets. It really helped me find some answers to questions I was getting from fundamentalists... although, I still had to do a lot of re-inventing the wheel on my own. My recent post Atheists Need To Get More Politically Active

Atheist Revolution : Secular Woman and the Abort Theocracy Campaign

Equality should be a given, however I don't approve of the view that women can do no wrong and that anyone who disagrees with a woman must be a sexist/anti-feminist. That isn't equality. That is part of the problem we are having within our community right now. There are those who actually don't agree that equality is a given and those people tend to be religious. For them, we do need to make the case for equality and I think that is a case that is easily made so there is really no problem there. We should point out that the Bible makes the opposite case and use the fact that equality is so obvious to undermine religious based morality.
Atheist Revolution : Yes, We Do Make the Choice to Use the Internet

When I was targeted by those o the FtB side of the divide, I had a really hard time dealing with the negativity. I don't have a problem with Christian hate, but when it was coming from people I had previously respected, I couldn't sleep and had a hard time functioning. I stopped reading those blogs pretty quickly. My wife read some of them for me and my brother commented on a few, but I just couldn't take the stress. I am glad that I disengaged from that vitriol. It was however temping to read more, but I couldn't keep up with the comments or the blog posts. Stopping was the best thing for me. Even now, I try to stay away from most blog posts about the continual atheist infighting.
Atheist Revolution : Seeking Input of Atheist Parents

I'm an atheist parent, but my children are really young. The oldest will be 4 on Sunday. He doesn't really know anything about God or religion yet. My plan was to take him to various religious services (Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, etc.) when he gets old enough (I don't know when that would be), but my wife disagrees. She doesn't want them exposed to ridiculous religious beliefs at all. I do want my kids to be knowledgeable about what other people believe to protect them from being conned by religion. I just haven't figured out how that is going to happen yet. I do this this parent should tell her kids that she thinks that she was wrong about the whole God thing and that she no longer believes any deities exist. This would teach her kids to be skeptical of all authorities, even her. Just my opinion.
Atheist Revolution : Who Controls the Atheist Movement?

As a blogger, I don't think bloggers should speak at conventions unless they have other credentials aside from blogging. Did they write a book (not self-published)? Are they on the board or in a leadership position of an atheist organization? Have they done something in activism that makes them stand out? However, if you are going to put bloggers on the conference circuit, then conference organizers should start reaching out to different bloggers instead of always pulling from the same small set of people.
Atheist Revolution : Secular Alternatives to Christmas

I do celebrate HumanLight. First and foremost, I like that my kids can celebrate something that isn't religious. HumanLight is more serious than other atheist holidays and yet it isn't so serious that it isn't fun. At the event we just came back from, there was a science presentation for kids and adults alike. It was very hands on and kid focused. Plus, we made ice cream in minutes with liquid nitrogen. Who doesn't love that? For me, I think HumanLight is a way of being part of a community. If I didn't have have kids, I probably wouldn't be that interested in it, but as a parent I think it is awesome. Plus, my son can share his HumanLight experience with his preschool class which will spread awareness for the fact that there are people who don't believe in deities and have a tradition of our own. I will be writing an Examiner article on HumanLight soon that will go into greater detail about the holiday.
Atheist Revolution : Blog Tips: Stay Modest

Arrogance and modesty in moderation I think. There is certainly a time for some level of arrogance in that we are writing about subjects that we are passionate about, but modesty is important too. There is a balance in which I can talk about a subject with confidence, but still allow for the possibility that I could be wrong when challenged by a commenter... unless the comment is ridiculously stupid of course. ;-) My recent post The ‘War on Holiday’ has begun

Atheist Revolution : Reflections on Burnout and Disillusionment

For me, the burn out is related to the FTBullies. We are supposed to be rational. I guess I had the delusion that if we could just get rid of religion and have a society of rational people, things would be swell. But it seems that even among the community of reason there is irrationality. It is just like that South Park episode and atheism will degenerate into tribalism. We haven't learned a thing and then what are we really fighting for? Don't get me wrong, I'm still in the game. But this whole thing has certainly made me reconsider my involvement with the movement and the fate of all humanity. Fortunately, it seems like the bullies are losing and the movement is starting to get back to normal again. But this type of thing will return again and again. Eternal vigilance, it's the price we must continually pay.
I have never used any type of warning on my blog. If I can handle writing it, others should handle reading it. My blog is called "Dangerous Talk" if someone is easily offended, I think the blog title should give them a clue. Also, as Jimmy Carr put it, "Offense is taken, not given." I don't know what is going to offend someone. The word "the" might be offensive to someone. I expect my readers to be mature adults.
