I wonder about the gyroscopic effect -- would you need two spinning in opposite directions? And would it be as valuable on the start as the battery systems? I've read recently opinions that Kimi would not have won Spa if not for the supernatural burst of power from his KERS. Who knows. But sinking money into KERS is an option to every team, just as developing a better aero package or building a more reliable engine. It's that simple. Also, John, I wonder if past failures for F1 to gain traction will be lessened by the reach of the internet and social media. No, not joking. Movements, in this case developing a fan base for F1, take a certain amount of critical mass. If there were only spattering, isolated incidents of fan involvement/interest for F1, it's no wonder it never took off. But, maybe if existing and new fans can find each other and connect on the sport, we can build momentum. You're a dyed-in-the-wool fan, so you don't need any encouragement to "get into F1." But newbies or people with a passing interest could benefit from a solid fan base. Momentum, that's what it takes. Just imagine if USF1 selected a high profile driver like Danica Patrick (not saying it's going to happen or should). In a week, there would be more media exposure in the States for F1 than we've seen throughout an entire decade. This includes the car, driver, team on the pit wall and the strategists. Some will say leave it up to the driver and car, but I disagree. And what is this going to do to tire compounds? The super softs this year seem to go off if: the car has too much fuel, too much areo, or the driver is attacking flat out. On the other hand, all radical rule changes force the teams to find new ways to solve challenges.
