USF1blog.com | F1 Blog, Made in America. : (More) National pride coming soon to a track near you

Interesting points. Keep in mind however that Santander follows Alonso for marketing purposes! If it weren't profitable, they'd drop him like a Piquet.

USF1blog.com | F1 Blog, Made in America. : 2010 F1 Car and Strategies

Yeah, the flywheel idea -- 20 years ago in high school physics class, I dreamed of the power of kinetic energy stored this way to recapture "braked" energy. Teacher said it just wasn't possible/practical. Then I hear about Williams' flywheel the size of a roll of toilet paper putting out 80HP! So cool. I wonder about the gyroscopic effect -- would you need two spinning in opposite directions? And would it be as valuable on the start as the battery systems? Would the flywheels begin to loose momentum after the line-up lap and while waiting for the lights? Stace

I know most will disagree with me, but I like KERS on the cars. I've read recently opinions that Kimi would not have won Spa if not for the supernatural burst of power from his KERS. Who knows. But sinking money into KERS is an option to every team, just as developing a better aero package or building a more reliable engine. It's that simple. Its value during the race is up to a driver's judicious application. I'd keep it. Stace

USF1blog.com | F1 Blog, Made in America. : How much click-power does YouTube bring?

Thanks for your comment Tony, and I'll echo your request for more visibility -- it's not my call but if it were, I'd have a team logo hat/shirt available for sale at this point (generally before you announce a new product, service or venture, you have the marketing/identity sewn up). I know sponsors' logos and livery is to come, but people are waiting to plunk down some cash for a piece of their new favorite team!

Personally, I'm excited to hear this. I think it will bring a sense of reassurance to the team and Tifosi alike who have been shaken by 1) this year's performance and 2) Massa's absence. Plus, the dude knows how to drive a car fast.

OK, so other than putting on a real race, what's needed to show the city respect? Do you think it's possible to turn the track into a road circuit of the same level as those other GP venues throughout the world? Not trying to dis Indy, but it's an oval first and foremost with a bit of a road section thrown in. Feel free to disagree.

USF1blog.com | F1 Blog, Made in America. : Formula 1 fans in the States – it’s lonely out there.

Right! The one thing we can affect is the social-ness. Here, online and in our homes. Anybody want to start a directory of F1 race-watch hot spots? maybe it exists already, but if I want to open my living room to other F1 fans on Sunday for the race, how can I do that? Please take your shoes off.

Taking these two comments together, I have to wonder 1) if oval fans will embrace (tolerate?) the USF1 effort since there's an effort to brand it so heavily as born from within the American race country? Also, John, I wonder if past failures for F1 to gain traction will be lessened by the reach of the internet and social media. No, not joking. Movements, in this case developing a fan base for F1, take a certain amount of critical mass. If there were only spattering, isolated incidents of fan involvement/interest for F1, it's no wonder it never took off. But, maybe if existing and new fans can find each other and connect on the sport, we can build momentum. You're a dyed-in-the-wool fan, so you don't need any encouragement to "get into F1." But newbies or people with a passing interest could benefit from a solid fan base. Momentum, that's what it takes. Just imagine if USF1 selected a high profile driver like Danica Patrick (not saying it's going to happen or should). In a week, there would be more media exposure in the States for F1 than we've seen throughout an entire decade.

USF1blog.com | F1 Blog, Made in America. : No refueling in 2010. More expensive for less excitement?

To me, pit strategy is a valuable part of the sport; it's the pinnacle of motorsport so we should expect all the variables performing at peak capacity. This includes the car, driver, team on the pit wall and the strategists. Some will say leave it up to the driver and car, but I disagree. And what is this going to do to tire compounds? The super softs this year seem to go off if: the car has too much fuel, too much areo, or the driver is attacking flat out. On the other hand, all radical rule changes force the teams to find new ways to solve challenges.
