This is how I'm bringing a bit of the World Cup to my church and to others who aren't part of my church, by asking them to visit www.join1goal.org the international campaign for Primary Education for all the children of the world, being supported by many involved with the World Cup, amongst others. Go on, Check it out and sign up!! (Yes, I was about as subtle as a vuvuzela there and it's not even a Shameless Saturday).

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Iffy Prayer Requests

Perhaps at that moment in time, he believed it was. Maybe, God did want him to spend more time building up real relationships with the people he was among. Getting to know them and listening to their concerns. Perhaps he should've been doing a bit more practical help, like feeding the hungry or digging a well for clean water. He believed God had called him to be a missionary, not a theology professor or a hermit right? Be happy if that was his biggest sin, especially if you were/are working with him. It could’ve been a lot worse.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : The Social Media Sermon Pause

Thanks huggiesgirl. I remembered part of it from bible teaching given years ago & the last point discovered yesterday lunch time, a few hours before looking at this site, in conversation with a Christian whose 1st language is Hebrew.

My inter-net connection kept cutting off a few moments ago & my browser kept crashing. I was trying to reply to another commenter that if they pause too long, some-one might feel sorry for them thinking they've lost their place or forgotten their next point.... then you go and get your comment submitted before mine... and now it looks like I got part of the idea of you! I'm trying not going to get all grumpy about it. Perhaps this is to help keep me humble or something. (Mutter mutter it's all a conspiracy this isn't the only time this has happened to me, mutter).

For many this is also a present experience. The whole concept behind the word 'Selah' in the Psalms comes to mind. That is to pause, think over and reflect on what was said and think about who God is, who you are and what God wants of you at that point in time.

I think it's great that you pause for that reason but don't do it too long, or someone will feel sorry for you thinking you've lost your place or forgotten what to say next! You'll also be probably aware there are sometimes people who will show no visible reaction but are thinking about what you say. You've got me wondering how many other people think, awsome phrase there, tweet, then forget what they tweeted?

I sometimes revisit notes I've written down from listening to sermons and talks. I also find sometimes, that just the actual process of writing it down, helps to get phrases or meanings into my memory. I know of two people who leave short pauses after things they've said, with the intention and hope those listening think over what they have just heard and consider how it may apply to them.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Stryper

After watching a television documentary about Stryper and other Christian metal bands, my brother considered that God could turn people's lives around and he started to come back to church meetings again. He also started to come to a Christian youth group I invited him to. After a while he became a Christian.

I didn't feel that your whole comment was really mean. Questioning why some-one is talking a lot about their fast, seems a reasonable point to make. Perhaps, you are just being a bit hard on yourself.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Having Your Life Edited By Your Parents

To your 3 question test, my answer is no each time. My parents are from the UK. They were loving parents who did not know Jesus. They did set some boundaries for me but none of those that you refer to, except I knew certain swear words would be unacceptable. I became a Christian in my teens, before they did. They became Christians in their 40's. They are still loving parents and they now know Jesus. I am very happy my parents became Christians and so are they :) When they first became Christians, they looked to me - for if they should be editing their lives a bit at times ... yes, that was kind of odd for me !

The Church of No People : \"Love\" is a Verb; \"Socialist\" is an Insult

(Continuing here as my post is apparently too long, though some others seemed a little longer)?? ...Some people make bad decisions and for some people it is easier to make bad decisions than others, especially if their brain is wired or has become wired up in a certain way to start with. I thank God for those who do help people without a permanent home in a wide variety of ways. Also enjoying learning about other cultures and challenging me to think about things in my own; many of us divided through a common language but united through this site and some of us through Christ too. Thanks.
