Big Government : Hanukkah in a Soviet Concentration Camp: Remembering, and Defeating, the Evil of Communism

Thanks, very compelling. I have read “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich” which also is a first hand account of the gulag. Ivan's redemption is a strong work ethic and parallels you grandfather's account in many ways.

Are we talking about the same Joe Arpaio I talked to this morning? You get a life, man! BTW, this is the third (I'm assuming you can count) Federal investigation Joe for being a racist. Race-baiting is so overrated. Eric Holder hasn't learned and he is still calling our good Sheriff a racist. I've probably have been called a racist more times than you have existed in this world, times ten! It doesn't work and yet lefties keep trying. I know how it works, someone has no facts so they look around to find the most damming thing they can, they pick it up and throw it. In this case, unless you have been living under a rock all your life, racism is a pretty damming thing. There is a law for that, Godwin's law. Google it! Under Godwin's law, that makes the Feds the loser. So, what are YOU doing about it? Armchair warrior? Give me a break!

Big Government : Reason.tv: Americans Want to Cut Spending - Q&A with Emily Ekins on new Reason Rupe Public Opini

Subject: Taxes, some thoughts 1. Tax day is April 15, almost opposite of election day. My solution is to move tax day to where it is 10 days before election day, on election years (of course) or the same calendar date on off years. My reasoning is if voters still have the insult of Uncle Sam stealing from them they might vote with a little common scene. 2. Do not allow the Feds to take funds directly out on a persons paycheck. Instead, have the government send a bill to the taxpayer each month and have that taxpayer write a check. 3. One on my favorites. Allow the Feds to tax to their hearts content but give the responsibility of collecting ALL revenues to the Several States. 4. The flat tax. It is a very good idea but it needs to be a Constitutional Amendment, our legislators don't obey their own rules and barely stay within the bounds of the Constitution as it is. One more option, allow Congress to raise and lower the tax rate; two thirds vote House and Senate to raise the rate and a simple majority to lower the rate. Taxes can be fun. I'm assuming of course that you have read the Federalist Papers 30 thru 36. Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. -- George Washington

Big Government : Obama Health Care Defense Gets Loaded Deck in Virginia

ONE: No computer program can generate randomness. In reality, most random numbers used in computer programs are pseudo-random, which means they are a generated in a predictable fashion using a mathematical formula. This is fine for many purposes, but it may not be random in the way you expect if you're used to dice rolls and lottery drawings. A fishbowl with names on slips of paper gives one a better chance of generating the desirable results. TWO: [Shameless plug] If you haven't read the Federalist Papers download the Audio Book Here: http://www.maricopagop.org/multimedia/download-au...

Big Government : Saturday Open Thread: Jazz Edition

My story: As a teenager in the 60's, long hair, tied dyed tee shirts, I had friend that proclaimed the rock & roll was not where it was at. John proclaimed that we, as young adults, should be not just listing to jazz but actively seeking out and attending jazz events. He often said “These guys are old and when we are old they will all be dead.” Made sense to me. Being in high school our funds where short so our evens had to be free or really worth the price. That being said I did get to see: Thelonious Monk, Buddy Rich, Miles Davis and many others I don't remember the names of. Needless to say, it was a great time in my life. No jive.

Looks like Bill's thinking is like his operating system. Going from Windows 3.1, 3.11 (to lockout OS/2), NT (3.5, 3.51), 95 (eight versions), NT 4.0, 98 (two versions), Me, 2000, XP and Vista before he got it right with Windows 7. If we where to apply Bill's reasoning to our problems, we should have them solved in the year 2516.
