Hear me out... I'm saying if Angelos is worried about who's going to take credit, that's a problem. Quite frankly, I'm starting the think the Orioles released this story themselves! Seriously, what a way to cover this horrid start and get the fans talking about something other than the losing. You can hate on Angelos all you want, but the guy is shrewd.

Nails - Time to pull out all the stops. 13 years of losing baseball, no end in sight. I'm not saying Cal-Pie can help, but you at least gotta listen. Hell, if Dan Synder said he could help at this point, I'd listen.

Baltimore Sports Report : The O's need some fire

Sure, this is a bad team, but Reimold lollygaggling after balls and the seeming lack of overall intensity should be addressed by the manager. Otherwise just wave the white flag and surrender. P.S. - The happiest man in town is Mike Gonzalez as his two measly blown saves in week one seem like nothing after dropping 11 of the first 12.

If I were Angelos and I thought ANYONE may be able to turn this franchise around, I'd listen. This is actually the first time in quite a while that I will take Ripken's side. If Angelos really said these things, about Ripken getting the credit, then he should be run out on a rail.

86 - The fans need something to get excited about. Not sure if it will be wins on the west coast, it could be excitement over a new manager. I just hope it's not Jeff Datz...who the hE# # is Jeff Datz?!?!

Mark, I've got a lot of respect for you in that you hate what has happened to the Orioles, but you still chime in here everyday and still go to the park, watch the games, etc. Let me ask you, does it aggravate you that other so-called fans have totally abandoned ship? I guess I look at it like voting...If you don't participate, don't complain. What do yo think?

I guess we are in the minority here as fans on the BSR. I never gave up on the Colts when they were here, despite having Bill Troup quarterback the team with a cast on his non-throwing hand. I get just as aggravated as anybody, but I still watch em, still go to the park and still try to cheer, even when the idiots in front of me look at me like I have two heads. The fact that Brooksie got a less than stellar ovation is very disheartening. This is a fan base that begged to have Brooks back and from all accounts, he is scheduled to do quite a bit with the club to honor the 1970 Championship this year.

Bruz - Ravens are a PR machine at work. Everything they do is Gold, Jerry, gold. This is a football town, always has been. This is a town that couldn't sell out world series games in 1966 and 1970. The yokals will make every excuse in the world for the football team and everything the baseball team does stinks. It's plainly obvious.

Bruz - here's the excuses you are going to get from the Orioles' "fans"... "The team stinks. Aint won in twelve years Inferior product." I spent a week in the baseball "mecca" of Tampa...you know, the team that has been in existence for 12 years and has only finished out of the cellar three times - yes, that Tampa. Fans were into the game, ringing cowbells, booing the umpire unmercifully for 2 + innings after the check swing strike 3, throw em out at second play, fans were into the games at every restaurant and bar I went to each night...I asked those who went with me to take mental notes of the fans in Tampa and then compare that to what they experienced at OPACY. Our fans stink. The Brooksie intro and the smattering of applause only solidifies my belief that Baltimore is a football town and baseball is a distant second.

"Opening Day is a special fun day thats why they showed..." Yes, it is, but that's not why the crowd was out in full force...everyone loves a party, that's why they showed up. If you talked to 24,000 of the 48,000 there yesterday, you probably couldn't get a coherent sentence out of them by the third inning. Half of the fans there yesterday were looking for an excuse to take a half day off and get blotto and had nothing to do with being a baseball fan. It's like that every year. I know I'm going to stir the pot, but it's the reason football is so popular here in town. It's an event, a party, that takes place every other week. Sure, there's a core of hard core fans much deeper than the Orioles have right now, but it's all about the event and little to do with the game.

Bottom line is, everyone loves a winner. The Ravens rule the roost right now, but if they take a slide, you'll see attendance drop there, too. We've gone through this exact same situation in the 1970's and 80's with the Colts...think about it...what did the fans say then? "Management stinks, players are no good, GM doesn't know what he's doing...I'm tired of the losing" We've been down this road before. Everyone loves a winner.

Baltimore Sports Report : "He's the Closer"

JP, Gonzalez should not be closing games right now, but in that Trembley is a "push button" manager it's no surprise if he continues to do so. Bottom line is, I'm not sure Trembley has the instincts to manage a big league team. Time after time last year, Trembley would have a guy in his lineup struggle, only to then go out and have a 2 or 3 hit night, and then he would reward the guy the next day with a "game off". He knows nothing of going with his "hot hand", he knows nothing about using a bullpen, so how could he possible know that bringing in a struggling reliever on opening day was not a good idea? Any clown, including me, can open up some "Managing MLB 101" book and say, use your 8th inning guy in the 8th, close the game with your stopper in the 9th...sometimes you gotta go with your gut and throw away the book. Trembley is managing scared and will probably be fired this offseason. If it was me, I'd at least go down swinging doing things my way...or he can keep pushing the auto-pilot button...
