I have since learned this, while in Dublin for a weekend--it seems that primarily pretentious foreigners call it Gaelic. I fit into the pretentious foreigner category, but I was set straight on that much whilst I was in Ireland :)

This is true, certainly, but "actually being there" is not a good base-line for representation, and the portrayal in this episode fits into a problematic pattern.

I'm glad that Doctor Who is not a sea of white faces all the time--because god help me that is not what London or even the rural village where I live looks like at all--but that doesn't mean that what they choose to do with POC in the narrative isn't flawed or worthy of critique :)

Ah, thanks for letting me know!

I think Moffat has great merit as a standalone writer, he's written some of my favourites in the earlier run of New Who, but he grates on me more and more as showrunner. He has his favourite tricks and tropes, and he recycles them rather heavily.

Oh, boo, a family of poc and they get approximately 3 lines in this episode and are totally irrelevant in terms of character and plot except that she's helping them
