This worked!!! Thank you VERY much! I didn't realize i could enter DFU from power off! MUCH appreciated!! Edit (for benefit of anybody else who requires it): I was required to keep the home button pressed for a couple of minutes until the phone had enough power to boot itself - but work in principle!

So, I jailbroke my iPhone 4 Redsn0w beta, then my power button broke (unrelated BTW).... Today - I forgot to charge it and ran out of battery power. Result? My iPhone is stuck on the apple logo as I can't get it into DFU mode, and can't kick it into recovery mode to restore with iTunes either... Anyone any ideas how i can restore it before i take it to the genius bar to have the power button fixed? I'd prefer not to take it in Jailbroken if possible... .

Sorry - I've no experience of using mine outside the UK so can't be of much help. Does she normally set it manually? If Network Selection is on 'Automatic' does it still not work?

I was just thinking the same thing actually! Not had my iPhone long and am really pleased with it, but every day i look on here to see if there's any updates then root through the app store. I'm not sure WHAT improvements/updates I want - I just fancy something new! : )

Out of curiosity Steve why do you want to update your FW but maintain your old BB if not for JB/unlock purposes? You could always update to 3.1.2 with a custom FW, maintaining your current BB and just not make use of JB apps.

It's entirely up to you. Personally I updated my 3G iPhone to 3.1.2. ages ago and haven't experienced any problems with my carrier signal... If there are issues i don't think they're particularly widespread.

Yes, please don't repost. If you're still stuck ask for further help on your original post. Did you get it working or are you still stuck? What's your iPhone status (previous JB, unlock required etc) and what error are you getting?

No, I'm afraid that Pwnage Tool is only available for Mac at the mo. If you don't have access to a Mac or a custom IPSW from a 'reliable' source then your only option is Blackra1n/Sn0w. @Musclenerd mentioned on twitter a few weeks ago that a Windows release was being considered, but no promises were made and certainly no ETA. Personally, if i couldn't use Pwnage Tool I'd wait for now, rather than risk Black-weather problems.

You can upgrade using Pwnage tool 3.1.4 to create a custom 3.1.2 IPSW, then unlock again using Ultrasn0w. I'll echo the advice of SBxW - have a look on iClarified for a tutorial & read through it a couple of times before you start. I've not heard of anyone having WiFi problems using this method, it seems to be limited to those using Blackra1n/sn0w, i believe due to a compatibility issue with the apple FW...

Nobody on here will tell you how to change an IMEI number, even if they did know. It sounds like you're a victim in all this so please don't take offense - but do you really want to be possession of a potentially stolen iPhone? I can't believe you're even considering changing the IMEI when there's every possibility you can get your money back and buy a legitimate phone! By changing the IMEI or even selling it onto another county (if indeed it will work there) you're just supporting the bad guys and making it worth while for them to continue their trade. Save yourself the hassle/prison time and get onto Paypal (assuming that's how you paid) and request a full refund, siting that the phone doesn't work and you think it's likely stolen/lost.

Yes, O2 UK are an official carrier - have been since day one. You're thinking of Orange UK who started a week or so ago. Incidentally (a little off topic), T-Mobile UK offered my friend an iPhone 3G upgrade last week but he turned them down as he wanted a GS. So i guess we can add them to list of official UK carriers.

Now that the iPhone has been released officially on Orange UK (if you go for that option) you'll find that when you plug it into iTunes & install the carrier update (it'll ask you) it will save the MMS & internet data settings for you. No need to to do it manually. You won't be charged as long as you've got a data usage allowance on your Orange contract. (which is the same for everyone - not just because you've got a Canadian phone.) I've got the Orange data settings from before it was officially released so let me know if you've got any problems and i'll pass them to you. It's really easy to input them. Regarding the unlock - I've got an older 3G which is easy to Jailbreak/unlock, but newer 3GS phones required a tethered JB which basically means you've got to plug your phone into your computer each time you turn it off/on again. I'm not sure if this is the case with your (pre 40) 3GS - you'll have to do a bit of digging or seek clarification from someone on here with a little more experience.

I'm on the lower BB and for now don't intend to update. Quite a few people have reported problems with Blackra1n/sn0w which is currently the only option for those on that BB (such as yourself). If everything is working fine though then i really wouldn't worry about it. I'm just sticking where i am as it gives me a few more options in the future.

I agree with Baterista and will be sticking with Dev Team and 04.26 for now. Glad to hear your experience with Blacksn0w has been a good one though racerJT. Geohot is a without doubt credit to the community and has helped an awful of people previously stuck at 05.11. Despite this, can I suggest that perhaps you promote his software on his own blog in future as I think it's a little rude to be doing it here.
