Daily Camera.com: : Boulder Brands Inc. receives $20K in business incentives from city - Boulder Daily Camera

"We are pleased that Boulder Brands was able to expand its downtown headquarters,” Boulder City Manager Jane S. Brautigam said in a statement. ,,,,with yearly revenues around 1/2 billion dollars, expansion is rather easy. The 20K spiff by Jane & Company is a gratuitous old boys club free drink card on the backs of all non-member City of Boulder community members.

I really like it. Several weeks ago I happened into Snarf's for an Italian...the way I felt afterwards. Not clean food at all....but all the familiar (good) tastes. The experience reminds me why a place like the OSC is so badly needed: great tasting and healthy.

I wonder how the course content has changed to merit such cost increases? Are they teaching new secrets to getting ahead in one's chosen field of study to facilitate faster pay-down of the student debit? It's astounding to think that a one year course cost is the equivalent to the selling price of a single family home not all that long ago...and still achievable in smaller rural communities. Buyer beware, I guess.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder team\'s film: Fighting fires in the age of climate change - Boulder Daily Camera

Climate change is constant...such as to what events and conditions caused or precipitated the earth's entering and exiting the last ice age...? It is an interesting examination to consider mountain living in light of the high expense and amount of resources needed to support it, and in addition to this the costs born by the community at-large when fire events place the mountain homes at-risk. Is it fair? I don't believe so, but I believe the motivations are towards supporting the community at-large by protecting all homes and by extension home values/tax base. It's a weird formula any way you cut it because for all the development-minded effort currently underway in Boulder County, it seems to completely ignore the environmental loads and costs (air, water, contamination, pollution, disruptions etc.) that are created and outsourced to everyone and everything else. Do no harm...comes to mind.

Daily Camera.com: : Bob Norris: Opposed to Senate Bill 15-093 - Boulder Daily Camera

Our culture, law and politcal systems are built on commerce which unfortunately relegates an individual's constitutional rights beneath mineral rights. In terms of financial loss, the current equation is highly corrupt insofar as those who live upon land where fracking takes place are forced to accept a reduced state of life and suffer the consequences of a toxic industrial process. Noise, traffic, chemicals, vibrations, toxic off-gasses, exhaust, combustion byproducts and reduced property value...all so another can make a profit. To me, the system is unconstitutional and unjust when one is forced to physically give up their rights, and in fact has no recognized legal authority under our current system to say no, where one industry can go wherever they want and do whatever they want to mine oil and gas. It's corrupt commerce where benefits at the expense of another by taking vital needs (clean air, water, peaceful enjoyment of home) via fracking.

Longmont Times-Call : Jim Hergenreder: Drilling firms don\'t have the right to endanger health and safety - Longmont Times

By comparison, how does one regulate the safety of a family that chooses to welcome a pack of wolves into their home? Regulation does Not remove risks but controls the amount and rates of harm. In light of placing one's safety into a financial reward equation, I believe the real costs are always under estimated.

Sad commentary. Not being opposed to oil and gas drilling doesn't eliminate the health risks nor can it ever be regulated to safety. The two are inherently at odds. There are consequences from all industrial activities. Frackers are exempt from a host of EPA pollution rules. This means they can dump their hazardous waste directly into environment. People are regularly being lied to when suggesting fracking is safe. Read the report. Toxins are OK because it would cost too much money if they had to address it. Here's a very pretty EPA brochure that explains all the ugly details: http://www.epa.gov/osw/nonhaz/industrial/special/...
