Macleans.ca : Layton's against the old games. It's a new one now.

While Layton ran a well focused campaign on all things for seniors, his party's performance in the House of Commons was sometimes all over the place. Either Layton will need to become more focused, or the NDP will need a new leader who may get the party on an organized track to forming the next government.

Macleans.ca : What is the most neglected issue so far in this election campaign?

You can see my comment below. I have not heard any leader actively supporting proportional representation. While I do not expect the Conservatives to offer anything democratic, and while the Liberals do have voting reforms that include proportional representation in their platform, the NDP does. However, I have not heard Jack Layton once mention voting reform. If he or another major leader does not actively support proportional representation, I will NOT be voting. It's not enough for the NDP just to list support for PR on its website. This just demonstrates that the NDP is not serious about voting reform. I hope that the NDP or Liberals will convince me that I am wrong by SPEAKING about voting reform that includes proportional representation.

Without any major party actively campaigning for democratic reform with proportional representation, I will most likely not be voting. I refuse to participate in the current first-past-the-post election that is neither fair nor democratic. I will only participate if at least one major party actively advocates for democratic reform with proportional representation. I don't expect that the Conservatives will advocate anything democratic. While the Liberals advocate for different ways to vote such as internet voting, they do not mention anything about advocating for proportional representation. The NDP does support proportional representation on paper. However, I have not heard Jack Layton state verbally his active support for proportional representation. I get the sense that he and the NDP are not serious about supporting voting reform. The Green Party leader, Elizabeth May, ruined her democratic legitimacy as she sought to change the Green Party constitution to keep herself on as leader rather than face a required leadership review. With no party actively supporting democratic improvements that includes voting through some form of proportional representation, I will not be voting in an autocratic selection. I will not be voting in this federal election that is neither fair nor democratic.
