Shopping Cart Disco : Content theft has no economic effect at all?

I agree wholeheartedly with Casja (above) and Camille (on NWN) - this is a prime example of the "media" taking one single set of statistical data and drawing conclusions from it that simply cannot be drawn. It's like comparing.... I dunno... the number of SCD readers with how many breakdown's Britney has had this year! It doesn't compute (I don't think... lol). Certainly not without a LOT more data and a LOT more math (math done properly too, not shonky journalistic math). I'd advise anyone reading who doesn't feel fully capable of understanding statistics (if you don't know what the significance of a t-test is, that's you) to draw NO conclusions from this graph at all, as it says nothing.

I'm learning 3DSMax as part of my college course and I have to say, having battled with and been beaten by Blender, I'm finding 3DSMax a breeze. Quality, highly detailed, perfect objects in a matter of an hour or so. And the tutorials that come with it are a great and easy way to start off and pick up how to do things. I'm not sure I'd be able to justify the cost of it just for SL use though.

Shopping Cart Disco : Battle Royale

Actually, I believe there was also an outcry about that skin too, group members calling for an alternate non-bruised version as they felt the skin depicted domestic violence. And I believe, after much unfair hounding and pounding by the few, a second non-bruised skin was sent out. I forget who the people leading the protest were though, but I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find out.

Shopping Cart Disco : SL Secret, Week 62

To #1 Y'know, not infrequently I look back over my plurks and think people must say the same about me (and hell, perhaps it's me you mean although I'd be surprised if I'm so important for anyone to make a secret about me). Then I think "what the hell - so I use Plurk to vent, big deal. No-one HAS to follow my timeline or read what I type, no-one HAS to reply, and if it helps me by venting then job done!" See, people don't plurk to amuse you. Really. They plurk for all sorts of reasons, but I seriously doubt that what you think is dreadfully important to anyone frankly, nor should it be. And if you don't want to hear about my kitty being seriously ill, my husband leaving crisp packets on the sofa, and my seriously fucked up sleep pattern, please feel free to scroll on by. :p

Shopping Cart Disco : Rebel Hope Theft: Blacklisted

I'm thrilled for RH and Rebel, it's a great outcome. However, I'd imagine there are a large number of creators, who've had numerous items stolen, who are out there asking "why didn't I get that response?". Is it that the technology to do this has only just become available, perhaps spurred on by Stoker's lawsuit? Is it because RH and Rebel are "oldbies" (no offence) and well known? For me, the fact that we're all surprised by LL's response speaks volumes, and raises many questions.

Shopping Cart Disco : Choose your own trademark adventure: Ozimals versus Ben Schumann

Firstly, kudos to you Moo for a well-balanced, non-emotive post about this. It's refreshing to read. Secondly, I'm confused. I was under the impression that as Second Life is hosted on US-based servers that all content in SL is governed by US law, not individual user's local laws. If that is correct, then surely it doesn't matter one bit what German Copyright/Trademark law says (other than it may place additional governance under which German citizens must abide - ie. British users paying VAT on income from SL). Lastly, in cases such as these I believe it would be in the best interests of those concerned to use qualified translation services, of which a number are available in SL charging SL-rates (which, compared to paying for copyright or a sim, is negligable). For less than the cost of a Chocolate Flop-Earred Dutch this could have been a total non-issue.
