Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Being single during Christmas at church.

“The instant my friend Jill stopped looking for a boyfriend this incredible guy came along and swept her off her feet." I hear that all the time! Then I think, "So...I'm not supposed to look." Blindfolded I go through the next few weeks, not daring to even peek just to see the shoes of others around me. And then those same friends tell me "You have to put yourself out there and go to the places you'd like to meet someone." Wait...now we're looking? Make up your minds! What's a girl to do? :)

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Not knowing what to do with Santa.

One of the best lines ever written for a Christmas song, "So let's give thanks to the Lord above 'cause Santa Clause comes tonight." Yes, indeed! Thank you my most gracious and Heavenly Father that a tubby man with a herd of flying reindeer will visit my home this evening to drop off my heart's desire...oh and thanks for that Jesus kid too. :) I don't have kids, but should the Lord see fit to bless me with them one day I will more than likely skip the Santa stuff, but make sure they don't go around ranting to their little friends that he's fictitious.

One of my favorites is: "I know God has someone for you..." Really? Who? When did he tell you? Did you take a name or number down? We are never assured a spouse. I can't recall reading in Scripture where God says, "And I will grant my children a husband or wife of equal or greater attractiveness..." When I was 28, (just two short years ago), a woman I had never met had an interrogation session that went like this: Older Woman: Are you married? Me: No. OW: Are you engaged? Me: No. OW: Are you dating anyone? Me: (becoming rather annoyed and flabergasted) No. OW: (long pause)......Are you divorced? Me: NO! OW: Well...how old are you? Me: 28. OW: Oh, well, you have two years left just get to lookin. Me: (dumbfounded silence)......

My vote is for International Justice Mission: (www.ijm.org) an organization that is trying to eradicate slavery and sex trafficking, or Food for the Hungry: (www.fh.org) whose mission is "To walk with churches, leaders and families in overcoming all forms of human poverty by living in healthy relationship with God and His creation." Either group is amazing.
