West Ham Till I Die : In Conversation With David Sullivan (Part 6): "We Were the Most Insolvent Club in the Country"

The media are all over these DS comments this morning - Iain, I just hope you get all the credit you desrve for enthralling interview. Having read the full transcript it's fascinating to see how the press pick up on little words here and there to sensationalise and exagerate. Looking forward to part 7.

West Ham Till I Die : In Conversation With David Sullivan (Part 5): "No Decision Yet On Olympic Stadium Bid"

Quite possibly, although G & S will need to get their stories straight. DG has recently said the stadium could be extended to cope with 45k but the infrastructure can't be - so staying is not a viable option. DS seems to be saying it is a distinct possibility. Also, if, as we have read recently ,there are 16 parties interested in taking over the OS G&S could come unstuck if they are playing hardball. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Great stuff agan Iain - reading between the few lines that DS has allowed himself to say I get the impression that staying at UP is his preferred option now. Not so long ago he was saying it could never happen.

West Ham Till I Die : In Conversation With David Sullivan (Part 4): "Benni McCarthy Cost Us £7 Million"

I think G & S have learnt their lesson about speaking out in public - their silence this year has been both deafening and much welcomed. Maybe Big Sam has been an influence on that - I'm sure he wouldn't put up with what GFZ went through. And long may their silence continue. I've hated the last few seasons where we have been in the public eye week in / week out. Lets just quietly get on and get the job done.

I think the one complaint was enough to give the very jittery OPLC an excuse to pull out and not have to use the Spuds and Orient legal action as a reason - it was an easy way out for them.
West Ham Till I Die : Vote: Player Performances v Southampton

I can see the value of putting Tomkins there if (when !!) we go down to 10 men but not sure we should be starting with him there. Don't get me wrong, he would always be one of the first names on the team sheet but Patrick Viera he aint. He is the best centre half at the club so he should be playing at centre half, in my opinion. The idea of a defensive midfielder (when you have 11 players on the pitch) is to break down the oppositions attacks and start your own attacks which is why I don't like to see Sam starting with Tomkins in midfield. As Tomkins develops into an even better player I can see him (Bobby Moore like) bringing the ball out of defence with aplomb - letsdevelop the great skills he has already.

Fully agree about Tomkins - he has done OK in midfield but is doing a defenders job there - breaks up play and wins headers but does not have the nouse to do something with the ball once he has it. He is a terrific centre half so lets play him there. There have been comments on here since last nights game about playing round pegs in round holes and how well it worked - let Tomkins defend and put a midfielder in the midfield. The defence is weaker with Tomkins playing further forward and the midfield is not stronger as a result. So why do it?

I agree with Iain, Tomkins is not a midfielder. He did a lot right today but it was all centre half type stuff just a bit further forward. Another thing to emerge from the game - hip flasks are a great invention!!

West Ham Till I Die : Vote: Player Performances v Ipswich

Yep, Nolan is difficult to figure out. When he does something good it is good, and you can see why he's there. On too many occassions however the playing side of his game passes us by. A good captain should be able to lead, enforce the manager's wishes, and play a bit. This IS West Ham - so I suppose two out of three aint bad!!

Interesting team Gav and I can see it working. Will be interesting to see if young Pottsy has grown a pair if included against Millwall on Saturday. On basis that Sam will not drop Nolan, where do you see him fitting in this side? We want pace going forward which he doesn't have, and we want holding midfielders with ability to create. Do you compromise Nobes or Diop for Nolan? As with most teams posted on this site there is a real balance in yours and whatever way you look at it ,Nolan, for everything that he does bring, upsets the balance.

I'm with you on this team Devo from an attacking basis but it does not provide any cover for the defence. Vaz Te and Taylor would really need to work the wings and I guess Noble would need to sit as the deepest midfielder. Also, on the basis that Sam won't drop Nolan the whole dimension will change when he tries to fit him in. I like the 4-4-2 but I think this may be comprimised to fit Nolan in. Think he may play Nolan a the expense of one of the forwards and possibly Morrison (if faith is showed in him) behind a striker. Its safety first with Sam. Still can't understand why so much emphasis was put on buying forwards inthe transfer window when he insists on only playing one up front.
