KATU - Portland, OR : Couple attacked in Ecuador back in U.S. | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | News

Good news! Leah has posted another blog entry and she reported that Britt is stable! She also mentioned that much of what the media has reported is false, which doesn't surprise me.

Attacks such as these also occur here in the USA, unfortunately. Right here in Portland there have been several reported cases of brutal attacks on people of other ethnic backgrounds. Remember the murder of the Ethiopian man several years back? It is a shame that there is so much hatred in the world but it happens everywhere, not just outside of our borders. But I digress.... back to the original story, I sure hope we hear a positive report soon about Britt's condition. I think this incident has been on the minds of all of us since we first heard about this tragic act of senseless brutality.

cimmonRon, I find it interesting that you insinuate that Britt and Leah were attacked because they were Americans. There really isn't any info that would point to that. We will have to wait to hear more from Leah and news reports before we know what the cause was. I travel outside the USA at least once a year and don't have any problems. This could easily have happened in the streets of the USA.

This is so sad! I sure hope that Britt gets to a hospital in the USA soon where he can get proper treatment for the infection. This is also very disturbing as I am planning a solo two month trip, which includes a month in Ecuador. I won't be heading to Esmeraldas!
