Also, I beg to differ on the statement you made about how Europeans speak better English. As a matter of fact, only certain European countries (and most western Europe) fall in this category you speak of. Only the UK, Germany, Netherlands,Belgium and quite possibly the Scandinavian countries are better in terms of the lingo. If you've been to France/Spain/Italy/Greece and most parts of eastern Europe, you'd see that most of them still struggle with the language still. But I digress. I say this through my personal experience. YOU CANNOT however, assume the same for people who use other languages (besides English) as their main communication to smoothly transition from a BM medium to English medium tertiary education (especially science related subjects) the way you did. You said yourself that the English language subject being taught in this country is deplorable. For these people, it's just another language hence the lack of importance placed upon mastering the language. I agree that being in a country as diversified as ours, people should be given the option to choose the language that suits them best for education.
